The stretch of the A5 road between Ballygawley and Omagh is considered one of the most dangerous roads in Europe, such that the Northern Ireland Assembley voted to upgrade it in 2007, with supplementry funds made available from the Irish government and the European Union. Since then, however, an anonymous group of litigants have managed to halt any progress taking place at all, and in that time forty four people have been killed in road traffic accidents along the route.
The local community, endorsed by Tyrone GAA, have gathered to say Enough is Enough and the new upgraded road must be built immmediately.

Hear from Eileen Dunne, Niall McKenna who was moved to join the campaign following the death of a young GAA clubmate, and Peter Canavan, who has lived alongside the road his whole life, recounting some of the memories he has of tragedies that occured.

New Ireland TV attended the count for the 2022 Assembly Elections in Maherafelt over the weekend, witnessing a historic shift in the electoral landscape as Sinn Féin topped the poll in first preference votes and in number of seats.

It is the first time a nationalist or republican party has done this since Partition, and represents another milestone in the journey towards a new Ireland.
