Shrek the Musical is a perfect musical which encapsulates the playful essence of its inspiration, Shrek. When it comes to movies turned musicals, I’m often quite apprehensive, as a lot of the time they can feel like simpler retellings with the addition of an orchestra. This was not the case for Shrek the Musical. The musical tells the story we love and are all familiar with: the ogre Shrek navigating an unfriendly world as he tries to take back his swamp, with challenges along the way. Kayla Sibanda reviews.

The Tell-Tale Heart is a supernatural murder mystery based on the Victorian short story by Edgar Allan Poe. A seemingly innocent exchange occurs between a man, Clarry Straven, visiting from London and Roderick Bounty, the owner of the lodgings Clarry is enquiring about using. Throughout the play you witness memorable encounters between these characters as their chemistry and interactions slowly build towards an unexpected and mind-boggling end. Katie Barr reviews.

In recent months there has been a greater focus around third parties, or minority parties. A third party is simply one which does not belong to either of the main two. These parties can vary significantly in terms of ideology, representation and in some ways in how serious they are about the political scene; ranging from the SNP (with 43 seats in the current parliament) to the Monster Raving Looney Party (0 seats). Representation can vary across levels of government; from the national parliaments, regional assemblies to local councils. Certain parties, including third parties, may gain greater support from the public across different levels of government compared to others. However, as we see members of the main parties defecting the minority parties (Lee Anderson’s move from the Conservative’s to Reform UK) and minority parties now winning in by-elections (George Galloway’s win for the Worker’s Party of Britain) they are once again gaining relevance. In the year of a general election, it is important to ask; is it worth voting for third parties?

Ipswich Town look set to redefine English football. Sofia Coppola’s 2023 Priscilla features a series of iconic outfits based on the real-life style icon Priscilla Presley. Costume designer Stacey Battat used costumes in order to accurately depict outfits appropriate to the period, to symbolically demonstrate the nature and evolution of Priscilla and Elvis’ relationship, and to show Priscilla’s mindset at each point in the movie. As the movie has a distinct lack of inner monologue, the costuming does a lot of the speaking. Priscilla’s costumes in the film can be split into three distinct periods: pre-Elvis, during Elvis, and post-Elvis. Here is a breakdown of Priscilla’s costuming in Sofia Coppola’s film.

Minority Report is a sci-fi play which explores the conflict between a society which revolves around the elimination of crime, and each individual’s right to autonomy. Written by David Haig and loosely based on the short story by Philip K. Dick, the play has received critical acclaim. After having experienced it for myself at Nottingham Playhouse, it’s easy to see why. Everything about this play, from the incredible staging to the fast-paced action and witty dialogue, will leave you on the edge of your seat. Abigel Lancaster reviews.
