NottsRocks Art Review: Breakfast by Nikki Gerak

Breakfast by Nikki Gerak is a vibrant, playful exploration of the ordinary made extraordinary. Featuring a bold blue figure enjoying a quirky morning ritual, this expressionistic acrylic painting combines vivid colours, whimsical forms, and a touch of surrealism. With its abstract charm and the curious inclusion of a solitary fish, Gerak’s work invites reflection on daily life with a fun, intuitive approach. Part of her unique style, which blends contemporary figurative art with street influences, Breakfast is a striking piece that captivates both the eye and the imagination. Read review / link in bio.

NottsRocks Music Radar Front Cover: Rats On Rafts

Rotterdam's Rats On Rafts are back with their latest single, Sleepwalking, a haunting taste of their forthcoming album Deep Below, out on 7th February 2025. A band known for their spiritual allegiance to Rotterdam’s New Wave, Pop, and Punk scenes, they’ve carved out a unique space where the weirder, the better. With their new record, they dive deeper into darker, slower sounds, questioning humanity’s relationship with nature, religion, and each other. Think echoes of The Cure, Cocteau Twins, and Slowdive, yet something unmistakably their own. Catch them on their UK and European tour starting February 2025. Check them out / link in bio.

Derby-based band Kez, fronted by Jamie Thrasivoulou, blends punk rock with spoken word and poetic vocals to create a raw, energetic sound. Known for their intense performances, often amplified with a megaphone, Kez’s latest release, On The Evening of a Funeral, fuses catchy guitar riffs with heavy basslines and thought-provoking lyrics. Influenced by The Fall, Public Image Limited, and The Minutemen, Kez’s music is as unpredictable as their live shows. Catch them at The Carousel on November 23rd at Sprawl's launch party.
