Laura Irene Artistry

Laura Irene Artistry A multi-media, eclectic, spooky inspired artist & photographer living and working in the gorgeous PNW. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England.

Laura Irene Artistry is the hub for the works created by Laura Hall-Ritchie. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admir

ing their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. I have since been in and out of art, and each time I left, I lost myself again. Coming in from another 'lost wander off" - it feels so good to be back! I have begun branching into "functional art", which in my case means exploring pottery, crochet, and physical items that can be explored through touch.

Not the best pictures, but a lovely client reached out and asked if I could recreate this beloved cow magnet they had, that had received some damage (1st photo).

They came out super cute and after sending some off to the original requester, I have a couple of these cuties left.

Not bad for having one photo to work from and not knowing any glaze or clay info🖤

Update: I’ve been notified by a friend that reviews were removed by Facebook (blocking means I can’t see them).

Thank you to everyone who took a second to report them, and those clients who left their own sweet review of their work. You keep me going!

Leaving this post up for transparency and clarity on where I stand.

______________________________________

I’ve started receiving negative reviews from angry republican men on the internet who think it’s appropriate to stalk women’s profiles and attempt to “ruin their business” because they don’t like a woman telling them that n**i statements are in fact, not an ok thing.

People are getting VERY comfortable out there right now expressing the absolute worst parts of themselves.

So if you see these popping up, please note that:

A) I’m not going to sit down and be quiet no matter how mad it makes you that someone telling you racism is not going to fly.

B ) No matter how many temper tantrums grown adult men throw on the internet I will not stop speaking up and doing everything I can to make any space I participate in safe for everyone around me.

C ) At no time am I EVER going to be tolerant of racism, homophobia or misogyny, so if that makes me an "intolerant and rude person" please let me know how I can be MORE so. Because I will not be making an ounce of space for that bs anywhere. I absolutely will not tolerate it, allow it to fly, or make room for it. It's not welcome anywhere around me, period.

While I’ve tried to keep this page fairly art focused, unfortunately some adults are confused on what being an adult actually looks like, so I do apologize for anyone encountering this baloney. Unfortunately Facebook does not really remove self-reported reviews even in cases of obvious scams, spam or little men with very big feelings about their rights to be racists unless they get like a ton of reports, so there’s not much I can do beyond reporting them, blocking them and then apologizing for the poor behavior of proud boys and making it clear where I personally stand. If you feel inclined, reporting the posts as spam or harassment may help get them taken down.

Be good to each other y’all - things are getting wild out there.

I don’t often make things for myself, but very occasionally a little something slips in.

After making one for a family member, I had to make our household a Birthday Plate. She’s a lil wonky but overall adorable!

25 seconds of packing a box with new pieces to head to be kiln fired. Now I’m on my way to annoy all my favorite people at Seattle Pottery Supply ✨

These q***r friendly and annoyed valentine pieces will be fired, then glazed and fired again to become magnets, pocket hugs, hangers, trinket dishes, cauldrons, jars and cups.

Now pray with me to the kiln gods that they make it through firing 🔥

A new rainy day ceramic cloud hanging is available. I dropped this one off at today.

Normally $25, this hanging art piece is discounted to $18 because of a slight crack on the back. It’s purely aesthetic and does not affect the functionality, nor can you see it from the front.

Happy Saturday friends 🦇✨

I took a little break to recooperate from last school terms madness. However now that the new term is under way, it must be time to get back to work!

Fresh back from the kiln is a new set of Bat hangers / ornaments with a raw clay back which makes them perfect for oil diffusing 😍

The Mad Madge Cup.

This one has gone on to her new home - however, I have more of these coming back from the bisque fire ready for glaze choice - they are food, liquid and dishwasher safe.

And with that, the year of the Madge comes to a close. I will still have Madge’s available however….

2025 will welcome The Year of The Tatas.

My Story

Red Mermaid Studio is the shop hub for the works created by Laura Charlesworth. I was born and raised in Nottingham, England. When I was ten, my mother moved us to Grants Pass, Oregon. When we moved to America, I remember feeling overwhelmed with the change and how different everything was. I found solace in sketching, doodling, painting, exploring any kind of artistic outlet I could get my hands on. I loved researching the old masters and admiring their works. As I grew older, I continued to find comfort and happiness in self-expression and artistic creation. There was a space of many years where I put away my brushes and pencils and tried to focus on things I thought my attention was better spent on. As a result, I became a very unhappy person and felt very out of touch with who I was. Not too long ago, I gave up trying to fight against myself and again returned to my beloved painting. While I still classify myself as an amateur and a student of the arts, I am once again finding happiness and a sense of self in my brushes. Despite initially learning to paint with oils, my tool of choice currently is acrylics. I love playing with color and expression, growing through experiencing the free flow of pouring and fluid art, the looseness of knife painting, and the fine line detail from brushwork. It is through these methods that most of my works are created. I hope to one day pass on my love of art to my two young boys, who are already demonstrating a love for all things messy and colorful. If I can just figure out how to keep paint off everything I own (myself included), and pass that secret on, who knows what could happen! Red Mermaid Studio was born out of all of this, as a place to share my creations. I hope you like them!
