Hello my loves, it's been a while(que stained playing in your head if you're of a certain age). I've been run ragged with work and only just got back on the history reading wagon. The beautiful spooky goth wife gifted me all these wonderful books. The first one finished was the medieval archer and next up is sweins invasion. This is kind a key book for me as this is roughly what danelaw uses as one of it key history points to date shows.

Recently seen a piece of art being shared on numerous scifi pages I'm part of. The art in question is in fact a chart showing numerous space ships and there measurements in relation to each other. It a beautiful piece of work but the issue is half of the ships drawn on it are not at the right size.
This has been bugging me for days as it of course highlights all the wonder of star war, star trek and 40k ships but down plays an aweful lot of amazing space opera and dystopian space novels and the shear size of the ships they use.

My biggest complaint in for a series of ships based in something called the honorverse. The superdreadnought class ships in these series of books are given measurements at 4.5km in length from bow to stern and 0.6km at the beam. That puts them at the same scale as an imperial retribution class battle ship. But on this chart they are shown as being tiny little 1.5Km things. With a beam that could be no more than 0.2km wide.

So I've recently been sent a number of articles from both you tube and other media sources regarding shields of the early medieval period and their use. I will have to put something together to discuss this subject as like all history, it is subjective and open to peoples interpretations which can lead to a single minded view about the subject.
