Christmas doesn’t have to be perfect! A message to overwhelmed parents who over think things especially on Christmas Eve!
Christmas doesn’t have to be perfect for your children to have the best time!
The mince pies don’t have to be homemade, presents don’t have to be wrapped with bows, ribbons (they just get torn off by the kiddies) stuffing doesn’t have to be made from scratch, roast potatoes don’t have to be Jamie Oliver’s recipe and cooked in duck fat and the Christmas cake, oh the Christmas cake! Honestly let it go! Shop bought, homemade, don’t fret about it and if your 10 year old asks to help decorate the Christmas cake that you’ve been putting off for weeks ‘cos you wanted it to be perfect and never felt ‘in the mood to do it’, say yes!!
Say yes to the mess!
Say yes to the uneven icing, the wonky design...you’ll be so pleased you did, because what your children will remember and hold in their memories is that you allowed them to feel all grown up at icing the cake, rolling it out, cutting out the holly decorations and being allowed total freedom to decorating the cake without any of your Mummy meltdown moments, they’ll remember the family time, the love, laughter at playing silly games!
Christmas doesn’t have to look Instagram worthy, absolute perfection, so don’t strive for it to be so! So God bless this mess!
Take a moment to breathe, put down the phone (unless taking a photo) take in the scene, really look, hug lots, laugh more and kiss often (even with absence of mistletoe) make the most of this year, a more relaxed and quiet year!
Merry Christmas, here’s to next year, with everything crossed, will be back to the hectic, full on family mayhem!
So here’s this year’s Christmas cake, that I’m actually dead chuffed with, because, for once, I relaxed and let go of control and realised Christmas doesn’t have to be perfect!
