sad news of the death of northern soul singer Pat Lewis. She was a lovely women & so very talented. I brought her over twice to appear at the Northampton Soul Weekenders a few years ago. Some great stories with her, including the way Pat, her sister Diane & Betty Boo getting lost in Frankfurt airpport & missing her flight!!! RIP Pat.

Very sad to inform all of our friends on Northampton Soul Weekenders page of the death of The Masqueraders singer David “Cowboy” Sanders, he had been part of the Masqueraders group for a half century.

It was here at our weekender 1 back in 2005 that The Masqueraders made their very first performance in the UK & what a sensational show it was!

From everyone here on this page ... our condolences go out to all David “Cowboy” Sanders family & friends

RIP Aretha Franklin, the Queen Of Soul. The Northampton weekender connection with Aretha is through one of our top performers at the old weekender ... Alemta Latimore, who as we know for many years was one of Aretha's backing singers. Almeta is in the middle of the three backing singers on this picture.

Friends of the Northampton Soul Weekenders; The Masqueraders are out of America’s Got Talent.

Tthey got as far as the 'judges pick' which was a draw and then lost out when the judges had to go to the public vote to decide a winner.

This is how the voting timeline went;
8:58 p.m. — The judges pick: Heidi votes The Masqueraders. Mel votes Eric Jones.

8:59 p.m. — Simon goes with The Masqueraders. So it is down to Howie.

9:00 p.m. — Howie goes with Eric Jones–making the judges vote a tie! This means they have to go to the number of votes each artist got from the public who had telephoned in. The public vote went to Eric who wins the tiebreaker!

Great effort by The Masqueraders. Well done

The Masqueraders next appearance in the quarter finals of Americas Got Talent is due to be televised in USA on the 22nd August 2017.

Friends of the Northampton Soul Weekenders, we are proud to be known as the event that gave The Masqueraders their very first ever gig in the UK, when we had them on our stage back in 2005. Lovely guys they were!

Not sure yet if there is a TV channel in the UK that you can watch live, but pretty sure we imagine that there must be a way of at the very least catching the results as they happen.
Interestingly The Masqueraders are currently being quoted at 100/1 to win.....

Just thinking about the Northampton Soul Weekenders & how many of the great acts we brought over have now passed away. I remember speaking to a few people at the events who said they didn't like live acts at all & preferred it when the DJ's were on, fair enough each to their own I say!

But to think we have now lost; Bobby Taylor, Sunny Monroe of The Falcons (his last ever performance & the groups only appearance in the UK!), Almeta Latimer (her one & only appearance in the UK!) & Reggie Torian (lead singer with The Impressions, the group first ever appearance on a UK stage!).

So glad we had some time with them & the legacy they leave behind will stay with us, who attended the weekenders for ever.
