Recording projects:

The studio is a pleasant and creative environment in which invited songwriters and musicians can work at their own pace, without time restraints, on mutually agreed Tontena Music projects. Visiting artists have remarked that Tontena Studio is a place in which they feel confident all things are possible.

The studio has an extensive range of outboard A-Class high-end tube and solid state audio processing equipment. It also has a fine array of acoustic and electronic musical instruments which include pianos, guitars, synths, drums/percussion and a variety of effects pedals and gizmos. Guitar amplification is by Vox, Fender, Marshall, Ampeg, Peavey and Carlsbro. There is also an assortment of amp/speaker modelling and fx units.

Digital recording can be via a full Avid Pro Tools 11 Native TB Core system (with Avid 16x16 HD I/O) or via 32 track/32 channel D32XD recorder. The latter features real-time 'flying fader' automation, full analogue compression on all input channels, ADAT connectivity, plus a comprehensive on-board editing and mastering suite.

Analogue recording is via a Tascam MS-16 track ‘reel to reel’ recorder (1" tape) with x2 banks of switchable DX-8DS (16 channels) noise reduction. The option to mix-down to a Studer Revox PR99mk3 recorder (1/4" tape running at 15ips) is also available for mastering, track bouncing, vari-speed pitch adjustment or, if desired, to apply a hint of natural ‘tape compression’ to a previously digitally recorded signal.
