Some creative soul has carved a shamrock out of the snow inside Grianán of Aileach, a fortified hilltop settlement on Inishowen, County Donegal, the origins of which date back to 1700 BC.

To put it into perspective, the interior of this circle measures over 75 ft across. The wall itself is about 15 ft thick and 16 ft high. Originally, there would have been buildings inside the ringfort; just outside it are the remains of a well and tumulus (burial mound).

Fair Isle, Scotland✨

The stunning Fair Isle, famed for its seabirds and fabulous knitwear, lies almost exactly halfway between Shetland and Orkney and can be reached by boat or small plane.

Ashore is a warm, welcoming community, consisting mainly of craftspeople, conservationists, boat-builders and crofters. Renowned as a place to see birds, there are lots of other things to discover - from archaeological remains to the famous Stevenson lighthouses.

Fair Isle is a birdwatcher's paradise, being a vital stopping-off place for migrating birds, and more than 350 species have been recorded here.

A cool 2nd-century AD Roman sculpture depicting a baby Hercules strangling a snake that had been sent to kill him.

Heracles was a hero of Greek mythology later adopted by the Romans and named Hercules. He was the offspring of Zeus (Jupiter in Roman) and Alcmene. Hera, Zeus' wife, was jealous of her husband's infidelity with Alcmene and attempted to kill the young boy by sending two snakes to his cradle. Young Heracles strangled them both.

The sculpture is made of marble and in the Capitoline Museums in Rome, Italy.
