Three years ago, we packed up our life in Yoxall, Staffordshire, and made the leap to Trabboch, East Ayrshire.
Back then, the only familiar face was my eldest daughter, (locals will know Meghan Downs) who had moved up from Sheffield just a month before, bringing our family closer together again.
It was a time filled with mixed emotions, excitement, nerves, and a huge leap into the unknown.
My husband continued to travel regularly back to England for work, and my youngest navigated finishing high school in a completely new place. University is next.
Life threw us another emotional challenge when we had to say goodbye to our beloved fur baby, Maud. But the universe had other plans, as soon enough, Beth bounced into our lives, bringing joy, mischief, and boundless love.
But that’s only part of the story.
In these three short years, Ayrshire has become not just our home, but the very heart of our lives. The warmth, friendliness, and open arms of this incredible community have allowed me to accomplish more than I ever dreamed:
✨ I launched and grew LinkedIn Local Ayrshire and Glasgow (you’ll hear me refer to this as the thriving Konpasu Community), creating welcoming spaces where genuine connections flourish.
✨ I developed and launched The Mountain Path membership, guiding business owners from hesitant connections to confident conversations.
✨ I became deeply involved with Megan’s Space, advocating passionately for young people’s mental health and su***de prevention. Since it’s a subject that’s touched my family.
✨ I hosted inspiring workshops, training sessions, and events, including collaborations with amazing organisations like the Chamber, helping local businesses and entrepreneurs shine brighter.
✨ My conversations turned into collaborations with local businesses, building meaningful strategies that move the needle for them.
✨ I embraced my role as a community connector, growing networks, friendships, and genuine relationships across Ayrshire, Glasgow, and soon Edinburgh.
✨ I became part of the creative energy here, writing regularly for Ayrshire Magazine and sharing insights and heartfelt advice through my newsletter and social media.
✨ I proudly took on a significant role with the King’s Trust, supporting their mission and positively impacting the community.
✨ And let’s not forget The Infinite Dip—a beautiful, memorable, record-breaking event that’s going to become a powerful symbol of community spirit and collective action.
These three years have shown me that home is so much more than a place, despite how many days of rain a year, the people, the stories, and the journey we share together.
Here’s to many more years of growing, connecting, and making conversations count.
