I love having the right gear for winter paddling. My dry trousers have integral feet, and over those I wear wetsuit boots that are a whopping 3 sizes up, so in really cold weather, I can wear a few pairs of fluffy socks inside and my feet stay warm and dry ☺️.

I only wear a normal sports top under my cag though, as my buoyancy aid is warm, especially once I’m paddling hard!

Someone said I’m a selfie queen…well too bad, here’s another 😁😂

Like a lot of us, Instagram is my positivity diary, where I focus on the great stuff and the happy stuff and connect with other inspiring people with whom I who share a passion for stand up paddle boarding, positivity and outdoorsy adventures. 🏄🏻

Perhaps some of you can relate to the gratitude and appreciation of the simple things in life - like how great it feels to get out on a SUP on the river for a long hard paddle in the middle of winter when usually the weather won’t allow it - especially when we’ve got ourselves through some s**t times and reinvented ourselves to live a simple-but-happy life we love.

So I make no apology for posting a cheerful pic of me in my gear from a recent adventure, and remembering how happy and lucky I am! 😁

Hope you are too! 😃

It was great to get some 1-1 paddle time with my bestie when we went to the Brecon Beacons.

In our busy lives, time out together is definitely something to treasure.

We stopped for SUP snacks on our boards, while paddling the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal.

Merry Christmas everyone! Who got SUP related presents from Santa this year?! 🎄🎅

The one benefit of making such a hash of turning the first corner on my 14” Starboard touring SUP board during back in October was that it gave .uk plenty of time to get some awesome pics!

To be fair it was a fairly sharp U shape turn and I mostly paddle straight on rivers or big lakes, so clearly don’t get enough practice… 🤷🏻‍♀️🫣.

But I do need to learn to step back turn next summer! Quite funny that I can hold my own in a SUP race and paddle 35 miles in a day but haven’t mastered one yet.

I’m grinning in this pic - well, I had to laugh or cry really 😂 - as I suddenly realised I was on camera and was trying to look cool 🤣.

To be honest, it’s come well and look like I know what I’m doing, so I didn’t even need to admit that!

It was a good fun being part of the Leisure category race, and we had incredible (warm and sunny) weather for the end of October.

I held third place for most of the course, but was overtaken in the last 50 metres by a very able fellow racer, so sadly missed out on a medal this time.

is a great race, held annually in Autumn by who also rent boards and offer lessons and tours on the Kingsbridge Estuary in Salcombe, Devon.

They’re definitely worth looking up if you’re in the area and fancy exploring the estuary by stand up paddle board.

Lots of interest in my winter SUP@kit so I’ll share what I wear on my bottom half in winter… dry trousers and wetsuit boots, size up for those! I tried another popular brand of dry trousers but I looked enormous… these Peak ones are so much more flattering IMHO.

The wetsuit boots are warm and the soles are comfy to walk on. The boots have a little loop on the rear ankle so you can tug them on and off with your fingers, which is so handy. The dry trousers feet feel really tight around my toes when I first put the boots on but you just walk around for a minute or so and they loosen up really fast and are comfy.

I recommend and for great customer service and easy returns.

All geared up for winter paddling in my dry top and trousers. I prefer a two piece as it’s more flexible and easier to get in and out of. How about you?

My buoyancy aid is Palm Peyto, it’s a great fit and has space for a water bladder in the back.

Why not plan a paddle on the River Wye from Hereford to Hoarwithy?

🚐 We launched at Hereford Rowing Club. £5 parking and £1.50pp launch, pay at the clubhouse bar. Steep wide steps to the river.

🏄🏻 River fins advised: There are lots of fun shallow sections with moving water. In November we got away with touring fins but only just - they scraped on the rocky river bed at times.

🧘🏻‍♀️After Hereford it’s a mostly rural route, as the river meanders through farming country.

🎣 Watch out for the fishermen!

🌊 About 22km along, the river splits with an island. Keep right but be aware it’s very shallow with a short section of fast bumpy moving water. Or stay left but you’ll have to portage over the island to join back to the main river after the mini rapids.

🏝️ At Hoarwithy, the landing beach is about 200m after the bridge on your right. The beach is easy with steps up to

💰 There’s an honesty box for your landing fees so bring cash. In summer you can pay to park on site but when the campsite is closed, call the friendly owners to let them know you’re coming.

🚙 You’ll need to park in Hoarwithy village (as they’re not insured for parking when the site is closed) but can drive onto the site to pick up/drop off.

The village pub is lovely, they let us park and we stopped for a drink afterwards.

We had a great paddle on the Ladybower Reservoir in Hope Valley, the Peak District on Saturday. It costs £10pp to park and launch from Ladybower Fisheries. You need to register on arrival and sign out at the end. It’s well managed, a large expanse of water with a safety boat.

“I wanna go faster” was definitely going through my head as I neared the finish line in the 6km leisure category!

This was SUP the Creek 2024, a really fun and well organised stand up paddle board race event on the Kingsbridge estuary near Salcombe at the weekend.

As I was paddling, I could hear in my mind, telling me to “Hinge, Jen, Hinge!” and to “Spear the fish!”. Lynne is honestly the most supportive and encouraging SUP buddy and a natural coach, so I was smiling as I imagined her cheering me on while I paddled, and trying to take her tips on board.

I held my own and even overtook one or two others. But try as I might, and with only a few hundred metres to go, I just couldn’t summon up any more speed and power to retain the 3rd place position I’d had for most of the race.

I was overtaken by a very able fellow paddler and sadly missed my spot on the podium.

Fair play and respect though, to all those who took part - and especially the three strong ladies who finished ahead of me.

There’s less pressure in the leisure category and we all root for and support each other.

Paddling the estuary was such a great location for a SUP race. We had unexpectedly good conditions, all things considered, for a seaside paddle board race at the end of October in England.

📸 Huge thanks to .uk for the amazing pics and to for hosting another fantastic event.

It was only my third long paddle on my new 14’ x27” Starboard Airline Sprint, and I’m so glad I chose it for the Trent100.

We were really pleased with our Day 2 time of 6:20 and it was a personal best for all of us, although it helps that conditions were in our favour compared to the last few years.

I lost us about 10 minutes at the last checkpoint when I refilled my bladder with electrolyte water but hadn’t fitted the lid properly and it exploded down my back and filled my pants with fluid 🫣. So a load of faffing getting it off, finding water and refilling before the last leg of the day.

Back to the Sprint… It glides through the water so nicely. As you can see from this aerial shot, although it’s relatively wide for a racer, it tapers quite sharply from the middle to the nose, so it can feel quite tippy, but it’s super fast, and the faster you paddle it the more stable it feels.

The girls are on 14 x 26” Airline Allstars which although technically narrower, retain width at the front so are more stable and therefore less challenging to paddle, but also less speedy than the Sprint. But still awesome and would be my second choice.

They say if you don’t find your new race board challenging at first then you probably haven’t got the right one. And the more I paddle it, the more comfortable I’m feeling and the more fun I’m having.

And wow, I can so tell the difference compared to my 14 x 30 Starboard touring board, although I still love that one for non-race days and paddling without needing to think too much or engage every muscle for balance 😅.

Although of course, we all know the Trent100 is a challenge not a race!

📸 .uk Thanks for the pics.

It’s good to be back! First day back training and it felt awesome. 💪I was resting a niggling injury a few months back and then just kind of lost my mojo and inclination to get up at 5:30am…

Before you know it we’re in July and I’m feeling meh.

So only one thing for it. Get some discipline back into my life and set the alarm for my 6am SGPT class .

They’re by far the best training gym in the area, if you want to work hard and get results. And for me it’s as much about my mental fitness and resilience as it is about being strong and fit.

So great to see the gang and now I can’t wait for my next session.
