In a recent interview with Variety, Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn gave a harsh response when asked about studios' use of AI. According to the outlet, the actor was "livid" over studios wanting to save an actor's likeness.
"So you want my scans and voice data and all that. OK, here's what I think is fair: I want your daughter's, because I want to create a virtual replica of her and invite my friends over to do whatever we want in a virtual party right now. Would you please look at the camera and tell me you think that's cool?," Penn suggested. "It's not about business ... It's an indecent proposal. That they would do that and not be taken to task for it is insulting. This is a real exposé on morality – a lack of morality."

ACTORS! We want to bring an important matter to your attention regarding AI/3D body scanning on film and television productions. It is crucial that you fully understand your rights and the potential implications before consenting to such scans.

We understand that the pressure to comply with production requests can be overwhelming, but we want to emphasize that as an extra, your role is defined as being paid to be just that—an extra. You have the right to say NO to any scanning procedure.

Allowing a production to perform an AI/3D body scan that grants them perpetual and unrestricted usage rights without your permission or compensation can have significant consequences for your future work opportunities. While you may receive a one-time payment for the scan, the long-term ramifications can result in lost work and exploitation.

By allowing a production and the associated studio to have access to your scanned data indefinitely, they effectively possess the ability to use your likeness whenever they see fit. This could potentially lead to your image being digitally replicated, reused, or manipulated without your knowledge or consent.

We implore you to carefully consider the consequences before consenting to such scans. Remember, your right to protect your image and control its usage extends beyond the scope of being an extra. Don't feel pressured to compromise your rights and future opportunities for a short-term gain.
