I joined BBC World Service in London in July 2008 as radio broadcast journalist for BBC Pashto. I have produced and presented a number of radio programmes including Pilwazai (پېلوځی), the weekly art magazine, and worked as online produc

The subjects I wrote on varied, such as Afghan-China relations, the Chinese Communist Party, Muslim Brotherhood in power, Palestine, Al Qaeda in Yemen, the Philippines peace process – and a special feature bidding farewell to BBC World Service’s old headquarters, the Bush House, before the broadcaster moved to the BBC’s New Broadcasting House in 2012. Before joining the BBC in London, I worked as a freelance reporter for BBC Pashto in Cairo (2001-2004). I also worked for the Pashto service of the Radio of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Cairo(2003-2005) and then moved to work for the Pashto service of China Radio International in Beijing (2005-2008). I studied Languages and Translation at Al Azhar University, and completed a post-graduate diploma level in mass communication at the Institute of the Arab Research and Studies in Cairo. I translated into Pashto a novel by the Arab writer, Naguib Mahfooz (published in 2008). In addition to Pashto and English, I am fluent in Arabic, Persian and Urdu. Stayed in Beijing for two years and a half I can also speak some Chinese Mandarin.
