Congratulations to Sarah Phillips who won our November Photo of the Month competition with her photo 'Snow Monkey.'

Here's what she had to say about it:

‘It was taken at the Snow Monkey Sanctuary at Yamanochi, Shimotakai-Gun, Japan. Although it was taken in February, there wasn't much snow on the ground, and the monkeys were still getting into the pool. A great way to relax and ignore the people who were watching him.’

Although winter’s shorter days mean you’ll have less daylight to work with, the sun will also be lower in the sky for most of the day, so you’ll be able to experiment with long winter shadows.

Long shadows can be very dramatic, whether you’re photographing a line of trees casting shadows in the forest or using a shadow as your main subject.
