As part of our series around this year’s International Women’s Day, we caught up with designer Chantel Elshout to talk awards, travel, and finding inspiration close to home…

"I was lucky enough to travel to some amazing destinations over the years and always feel invigorated and inspired seeing design in different countries – not only their use of colour, geometry and materials, but also what is important to them in terms of ergonomics and the feeling that design instills. For me, a home should reflect the personality of their owner and be a haven from the outside world – especially these days where there can be a lot of sensory overload."

Eye-catching floor tiles by WOW Design give a Madrid home renovation a colourful focal point

The cosmopolitan district of Chueca is perhaps Madrid’s epicentre of design, as well as being one of the liveliest areas of the capital with its alternative edge and wealth of coffee shops, eco-galleries and traditional markets.
