This is based on a painting called “Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes” by Giovanni Lanfranco.

The story it refers to is better known as the “Feeding of the 4,000”. A copy of the painting hangs in the Leyton Orient Boardroom where it is called “Not Feeding The 7,682”

FRIDAY 22ND NOVEMBER

Please come along to Leyton Orient Supporters Club for an evening with Roy Massey, Orient's leading scorer from the 1967/68 season and all round good egg.

After retiring prematurely through injury, Roy went on to have an incredible career as an Academy coach, eventually winding up at Arsenal, where he helped to develop household names like Bukayo Saka, Alex Iwobi, Harry Kane, Andros Townsend, Jack Wilshere... and many others.

Roy's grandfather won the FA Cup with Sheffield Wednesday back in 1896, and Roy also played alongside Graham Taylor and Howard Wilkinson for England Schoolboys, so you can bet he will have some great stories to tell.

It's a free event, and doors will be at 630 for a 730 start, and there will be copies of his book available discounted from the price you see online: https://www.pitchpublishing.co.uk/shop/roy-massey

Attention: Issue 295 of the Leyton Orientear hit the streets of Leyton last night and the substantial sale of this edition matched the solid O's performance. For those of you that missed us at the ground there is good news. You can order the current issue from the link that resides on our web page or just email us at [email protected]

Subscriptions up until the end of the current season are also available.

For those travelling to Wycombe a limited amount of copies will (hopefully) be available in and around the away end at half time.

LIFE COMES AT YOU FAST!

And much faster than another 3pm Saturday kick off at Brisbane Road.

But we can adapt. We can publish on a Tuesday, and be available in all the usual places, with all the usual quality and insight. So check out #295 for not one, not two, but three exclusive interviews, some exclusive survey analysis on the state of the game (tl;dr ticket prices are the number one concern of football fans all around the country), and all kinds of other goodies.

Available from Leyton Orient Supporters Club, Dreamhouse Records, in and around the ground tonight, and www.leytonorientear.com

Out tomorrow, from all the usual spots around the ground, Leyton Orient Supporters Club, Dreamhouse Records, and www.leytonorientear.com

Featuring our first ever interview with Nigel Travis, reflections from Adam Thompson, reviews of “The Fall & Rise of Leyton Orient” and Steve White & The Protest Family’s new version of “Brisbane Road”, poll results, a look back at the AGM, some necessary polemic about Orient’s dalliance with loyalism, and tons more.

Up to £2 now to reflect the relentless onward march of inflation, but at least we’re full colour.

Up the Os.

THE NEW SEASON!

Yes, it's very nearly upon us, and we're delighted to say that the Ear has somehow managed to survive for another year. This season will be our 39th, and we're planning to diversify into other formats to make sure the Ear remains relevant into a fifth decade.

But fans of the 'zine need not fear - we'll be publishing at least 5 new editions this season, and subscriptions are open from today!

Sadly, prices have had to go up a bit, as the last few years of inflation mean we've been running at a loss for a while now. So, for the princely sum of £25 (which is still less than almost every single adult matchday ticket for our home games) you can have every edition delivered directly to the address of your choice... or it's a straight tenner if you're happy with a pdf version.

Visit https://www.leytonorientear.com/subscribe.html

Or for bank details / address to post a cheque to, either drop a DM here or email [email protected]

It's only your support that keeps us going. Thank you so much.

First edition will be ready in time for Birmingham at home on 24th August. Here's a little preview...

Joe Elwood: 26/10/39 - 14/7/24, pictured here outside Brisbane Road just a couple of years ago. One of a very few Os to have won promotion to, played in and scored in the top flight, Joe spent 8 seasons with Orient and settled in Walthamstow after his playing days were over.

69 years ago today, our founder Dave Knight was born.

As most of you know, Dave is no longer with us. But his legacy lives on through his family, his very many friends, and the countless ways that he improved the lives of those who knew him while he was around.

Keeping this fanzine going is one small way that we can honour his memory, and we try our best to do so in the same spirit he started it with back in 1986.

Happy Birthday Dave: everything we do is built on, and inspired by your work. That was your gift to us, and because we can't pay it back directly to you, we're trying to pay it forward.

Up the Os.
