President Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that Turkiye could enter Israel as it had done in the past in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, though he did not spell out what sort of intervention he was suggesting.
Erdogan, who has been a fierce critic of Israel's war on Gaza, started discussing that war during a speech praising his country's defence industry.
"We must be very strong so that Israel can't do these ridiculous things to Palestine. Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do similar to them," Erdogan told a meeting of his ruling AK Party in his hometown of Rize.
The president appeared to be referring to past actions by Turkey. In 2020, Turkey sent military personnel to Libya in support of the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord of Libya. Turkey has denied any direct role in Azerbaijan's military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh, but said last year it was using "all means", including military training and modernisation, to support its close ally.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has withdrawn the UK’s opposition to the International Criminal Court (ICC) issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The latest move indicates a slight shift in Britain’s position on Palestine since Labour took office and comes after Foreign Secretary David Lammy resumed funding for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). There is also speculation that Labour could follow advice from officials and halt some if not all arms exports to Israel.
Labour has been under mounting pressure from civil society organisations, human rights groups, and British Muslims to halt arms sales. If the party follows through on this potential policy shift, it could help address some of the concerns that led to Labour’s loss of key seats in the recent election.
A spokesperson for the new prime minister announced on Friday that Labour’s decision to reverse the Tory government’s opposition to the ICC prosecutor’s application for warrants against Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
“This was a proposal by the previous government which was not submitted before the election, and which I can confirm the government will not be pursuing in line with our long-standing position that this is a matter for the court to decide on.”

As the world turns its attention to Paris for the Olympic Games, the Palestine Olympic Committee (POC) has made a last-minute move to bar Israeli athletes from competing in the Games due to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
The POC has compiled a dossier of Israeli athletes’ involvement in Israel’s aggression on Gaza. The evidence is part of the documents handed to the IOC to ban Israel altogether from the competition.
It all happened as a left-wing MP voiced his support for shunning Israel over its country’s attacks on Gaza.

The Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions movement (BDS), Jewish Voice for Peace and Movement for Black Lives are urging Disney and Marvel to drop the pro-Israel propaganda character Sabra (Ruth Bat Seraph) from the upcoming film "Captain America: Brave New World".
Marvel faced calls for a boycott in September 2022 after reviving the character, initially introduced in the 1980s Hulk comics, with Israeli actor Shira Haas playing the role. Following backlash from pro-Palestine groups, the studio promised a “new approach to the character.”
Last week, Marvel released the trailer for the film, set to premiere next February, depicting Sabra as a “high-ranking US government official”.

A man who was kicked and stamped on by a Greater Manchester Police officer at Manchester Airport has been found to have a cyst on his brain, according to his family lawyer, Akhmed Yakoob.
CT scans have revealed the extent of Mohammed Fahir's injuries following the violent incident.
Yakoob said: "His medical condition has worsened since last night. A CT scan has revealed a cyst on his brain, so please pray for his wellbeing. Our main concern now is that the family receives justice and that incidents like this never happen again."
In a press conference outside a police station in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, Yakoob informed reporters that the two young men in the video are siblings, and a third brother, who is a serving officer with Greater Manchester Police, now fears for his safety and is afraid to return to work.
