President Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that Turkiye could enter Israel as it had done in the past in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, though he did not spell out what sort of intervention he was suggesting.
Erdogan, who has been a fierce critic of Israel's war on Gaza, started discussing that war during a speech praising his country's defence industry.
"We must be very strong so that Israel can't do these ridiculous things to Palestine. Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do similar to them," Erdogan told a meeting of his ruling AK Party in his hometown of Rize.
The president appeared to be referring to past actions by Turkey. In 2020, Turkey sent military personnel to Libya in support of the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord of Libya. Turkey has denied any direct role in Azerbaijan's military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh, but said last year it was using "all means", including military training and modernisation, to support its close ally.

A man who was kicked and stamped on by a Greater Manchester Police officer at Manchester Airport has been found to have a cyst on his brain, according to his family lawyer, Akhmed Yakoob.
CT scans have revealed the extent of Mohammed Fahir's injuries following the violent incident.
Yakoob said: "His medical condition has worsened since last night. A CT scan has revealed a cyst on his brain, so please pray for his wellbeing. Our main concern now is that the family receives justice and that incidents like this never happen again."
In a press conference outside a police station in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, Yakoob informed reporters that the two young men in the video are siblings, and a third brother, who is a serving officer with Greater Manchester Police, now fears for his safety and is afraid to return to work.

Paris 2024 Olympics: AFP journalists Christina Assi and Dylan Collins join Olympic torch relay
"I hope what we did today honours all the journalists and friends who have been killed this year," said Lebanese national Assi, who was joined in the relay by AFP video colleague Dylan Collins, an American hurt in the same incident.
"It's amazing and heartwarming to see all these people cheering after we survived a targeted attack as journalists," added Assi, who completed her 200-metre stretch through the streets of Vincennes in a wheelchair.
Assi said that she wished slain Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah and other journalists killed in the fighting "were here to witness this today".
"I wish it didn't take such an attack to be participating and to be representing journalists," she added, visibly tearing up.
Around 50 AFP journalists joined the crowd in Vincennes just east of Paris to cheer on Assi and Collins.
Assi, 29, was wounded by Israeli shellfire in October 2023.
