Your Best Friend About Town

Your Best Friend About Town Nicky Rapley - blogger Hi! I’m Nicky - a freelance creative producer and event manager. I don’t do mainstream – I’m not an X Factor or Big Brother fan. Ta-da!

I also have an entertainment agency “Wake Up Productions” that supplies alternative performers: cabaret, circus, music, burlesque. I supply high end entertainment to private and corporate parties - Note the “high end” there please :)

I’ve had the good fortune to visit many cities and was often frustrated that I didn’t know about the quirkiest bar, the most creative show or coolest exhibition whi

lst I was there – I didn’t want to just go to the touristy places - I wanted to see the real city – I could surf the endless magazine & online listings, true – but how was I to believe that what I read wasn’t biased – written from the view point of a promoter? Or how tricky was it to get to the location? One day I thought, “I wish I had friend who lived here – she’d know what to do”! An idea was born – I’ve decided to be that friend – to all of you that have come to live or visit this amazing city and are looking for that something different to do – to get to know the real London and don’t want to waste time and money making mistakes. Having produced and managed events for clients such as Alice Cooper, Dennis Publishing, Festival Republic, Live Nation and SKYTV and designed numerous themed corporate and private parties, I truly have an alternative style and professional eye for detail and expect value for money. I’m a member of the worldwide recognized event industry body ISES – International Special Events Society – have had complimentary reviews in "Time Out" for my creative shows and coverage in the industry magazine "Stand Out" and recently supplied alternative talent for Bob Geldof’s 60th Birthday. Prior to working in the event industry, for 15 years I was a costume designer in Film and TV working with names such a Nike, Pepsi & the BBC and with celebrities such as Beyoncé, J-Lo, hell – I even had dinner with Madonna ( unexpected and a long story!)

I’m always on the lookout for creative and fun entertainment ideas and I’ll be writing about places I know, sharing ideas and tips about things to do off the tourist trail. I will sometimes be talking about obvious places – such as the V&A Museum – a favourite of mine :) – as some do deserve it. London does have such amazing public spaces. I hope to offer discounts in the near future as well as up to the minute seasonal suggestions about how to make the most of your time in London and have fun! Which, after all, is what you just have to do, whilst being in the most cosmopolitan city in the world, surely? Do let me know if there’s anything you’d like to hear more about that you don’t see in my blogs or if you wish to have some ideas for great days out put together for you…
