💡Festival of Industry💡Launch of ‘Under the Jet Plane Sky’ by Owen Wall Ceramics
🗓️ 26 May | 12:30pm
📍 Angel Gardens, N18 2NX

Please join us for the launch of a new public artwork for Angel Gardens, Edmonton. ‘Under the Jet Plane Sky’ by local ceramic artist Owen Wall which has been created as part of Enfield’s Festival of Industry programme supported by Arts Council England. Under The Jet Plane Sky is a celebration of the quiet determination of small-scale creative industry that exists within the borough of Enfield today.
Owen worked with Edmonton arts organisation Doodle Designs to deliver workshops with children and young people from Aylward Academy, Woodpecker and Churchfield Schools, and Exodus Youth Worx in which participants had the chance to make their own tile-artworks using the wax resist technique. The workshops inspired the creation of the final tiles which were handmade and glazed using the same technique in Owen’s studio. The artwork is installed on a WW2 anti-tank block situated in the gardens, which also provides the opportunity to share the history of this structure.

We would like to invite you to celebrate the launch of this new public artwork, and to join us for a further celebration at Fore Street for the launch of another public artwork ‘An Angel for Edmonton’ at Joyce & Snells estate.

Event timings

▪️12:30pm: Launch of Under The Jet Plane Sky artwork at Angel Gardens (cake will be served!)
▪️2-3:30pm: Tour of Fore Street public art (meeting point outside of the Living Room Library)
▪️3:30pm: Official Launch of An Angel for Edmonton artwork outside of Joyce & Snells Estate
▪️4:00pm-5:30pm: Refreshments served at The Living Room Library

A popular interactive game that turns whole communities into a giant activity competition is set to launch in Edmonton.
Beat the Street encourages communities to move more and to make small lifestyle changes, such as walking or cycling to school or work. The competitive element of the game helps people to get involved to work together to learn about the local area and gather points for prizes.
As well as making a significant impact on increasing low levels of physical activity amongst adults and children, the game also helps families spend time in green spaces together and can improve key skills such as map-reading and team-building.
The game is open to anyone of any age who would like to take part Children use a card and map which will be provided by participating primary schools to locate Beat Boxes around Edmonton. Adults and young people can also register online or download the app to their phones.
Once the game is underway, players find their nearest Beat Boxes and accumulate points as they discover them. There will be more than 40 sensors that record each players’ point tally by simply hovering their player cards over the boxes.
Players can join a school, community or workplace team and there are many prizes on offer. Points can be checked on a leader board, online.
Beat the Street Edmonton has been commissioned by Enfield Council and is funded by London Marathon Active Spaces, Canal & River Trust, and the National Lottery via Sport England. It is being delivered by Intelligent Health.
The game was created by GP Dr William Bird MBE, a specialist in physical activity, to encourage people to explore their local areas and to make exercise fun. It has been played by more than 1.8 million people in 168 locations in the UK

REPOST •

Last weekend, Exodus Youth Worx UK, .amnesty , and our youth representatives travelled to Biringham to participate in a consultation on the Police Race Action Plan.

It was an opportunity to have a say and help shape the biggest ever plan to tackle racism and discrimination in policing.

It was a passionate and eye opening conversation that reinforced some things we already knew and taught us some new things too.

It was such an important conversation that we wanted to bring the discussion to youth and those that work with youth in London.

It’s happening!!! We invite you to join us on Tuesday 9th April from 11am to 4pm at the NYCC centre in Edmonton Green, 39 St James Chambers (upstairs above Costa), Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, N9 0UD.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Please RSVP by email to [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you there!

Angel Edmonton receives £11.9M Levelling Up funding

Enfield Council has been successful in its bid for funding from the Levelling Up Fund with up to £11.9 million being pledged to go towards projects to improve the lives of Upper Edmonton residents and regenerate the Angel Edmonton area.

The provisional award of up to £11,902,562 from the fund's third tranche will build on the work being delivered by the Council and supported by the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund with an aim of increasing footfall, creating local jobs, reducing crime, encouraging active travel and creating a more attractive environment.

Enfield Council’s Leader, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, said: “We are investing in Upper Edmonton to increase opportunities for our residents, particularly for younger people and to create an area that people are proud to be a part of.

“This funding award will build on the hard work of this Council to transform one of the more deprived areas in the country and bring about real change.

"While we were disappointed that this funding did not come earlier in January’s funding round, we will waste no time in getting our plans into action. This will include job creation, skills and training, creating a better environment for leisure and wellbeing and investing in the local economy.”

The initial bid focused on new projects for Upper Edmonton to improve public spaces and connections, provide better places for businesses and community facilities and enhance the cultural offering. The final scope of the works will be reviewed and developed in the coming weeks.

The overall plans for Upper Edmonton support a new vision for the area and also revisit the concept of a high street, shaping it to become a place for learning new skills, experiencing culture and connecting with local communities.

Delivery of the next phase with the new £11.9 million funding is expected by March 2026
