On March 8th and 9th, join Angel Bat Dawid and Naima Nefertari in a pair of amazing events at Fabric Workshop and Museum and Ars Nova Solar Myth in Philadelphia. Both events are part of the ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‹๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐“๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž: ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐–๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Œ๐จ๐ค๐ข ๐‚๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ซ๐ฒ retrospective, an incredible exhibition celebrating the works of Moki Cherry running until 16th April.

On Sunday 8th March, a listening session will take place where the artists will play songs from ๐‰๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ง๐ž๐ฒ ๐“๐จ ๐๐š๐›๐ญ๐š ๐๐ฅ๐š๐ฒ๐š, talk about their stunning collaboration and speak on works from both Moki and Don Cherry. The conversation will be hosted by the brilliant Marcus J. Moore.

The following day, do not miss the opportunity to see the duo live at the Ars Nova Solar Myth in Philadelphia, where they will be performing their phenomenal offering Journey To Nabta Playa.

Over the last couple of months, Surya Botofasina has independently released three beautiful digital exclusives that capture his current creative moment, all produced, arranged, recorded and mixed by Surya Botofasina himself.

One of the main inspirations behind Angel Bat Dawid and Naima Nefertariโ€™s Journey To Nabta Playa is the beautiful childrenโ€™s story โ€˜The People Could Flyโ€™ by Virginia Hamilton. Itโ€™s an important childhood memory for Nefertari, something that her grandfather Don Cherry gifted to her when she was young, and has stayed with her all these years.

notes in the liner notes in the zine that accompanies the album how the story touches on the folklore of the Flying Africans, โ€œa myth grounded in memory and refusal.โ€ That idea of remembering and resisting runs right through the heart of this project.

Journey To Nabta Playa is full of layered connections with the album taking its name from the ancient ceremonial and astronomical site in the Nubian desert. Just like the folklore of The People Could Fly, the album invites listeners to think beyond the limits of colonial narratives and reconnect with ancient lineages, carried by memory, rhythm, and the stories of all those who came before.
