SOMM Recordings is pleased to announce a release devoted to the singular 20th century Spanish composer and pianist, Manuel de Falla, with three late-Romantic scores that capture the very essence of Spain: The Three-Cornered Hat, Nights in the Gardens of Spain and Seven Spanish Folksongs. Pre-order and listen to a track today on Apple Music's app and more via listn.fm/fallaorchestralworks

This recording features the Ulster Orchestra with their Principal Guest Conductor, Jac van Steen. The soloist for Noches en los jardines de España is the London based Brazilian pianist, Clelia Iruzun, one of SOMM’s long-time collaborators and treasured artists. She is undoubtedly amongst the finest pianists in South American and Iberian repertoire currently performing in Europe, and several composers have dedicated works to her. The prize-winning Irish mezzo soprano, Sarah Richmond - Mezzo Soprano, is making her CD debut in Siete canciones populares españolas.

“Schmidt had a gift for the monumental. Here are two master-strokes from the 1950s enshrining two of his orchestral/choral works. These readings – OK; in less than modern 1950s and early 1960s sound – are utterly compelling. “Awesome” is a word much devalued these days but these statements of faith and the vivid imagery of the Book of Revelations do leave the listener in awe. The audio-engineer Lani Spahr has once again wrought well in these painstaking revivals. It is time for a well-wisher to revise his inadequate Wiki entry.” —Rob Barnett

“Good though Williams’ Prokofiev and Schumann are – and they are very good – it was her performance of the Op126 Bagatelles that had me panting for more late Beethoven from her.” —David McDade

Fantastic review for Madeleine Mitchell violinist and the London Chamber Ensemble Quartet in the latest issue of Gramophone! https://bit.ly/3Zfbl2S

“I love the way Madeleine Mitchell and her colleagues let the music unfold in a natural manner, as though they were treading the very contours of Howell’s beloved landscape at Chosen. The high tessitura for first violin, notably in the commanding climax of the first movement, holds no bars for the leader, who, alongside her players, so fervently projects the ecstatic elasticity embedded in the music. … thrillingly realised in [a] dynamic performance.… ” —Adrian Edwards

⭐⭐⭐⭐ for Madeleine Mitchell violinist and the London Chamber Ensemble Quartet's Howells & Wood recording in The Guardian! https://bit.ly/4eOh0Ts

““In Gloucestershire”… is a stirring work, full of vitality, expertly played here by the London Chamber Ensemble… The other main work is by Howells’s teacher at the Royal College of Music, Charles Wood… Melodic, expansive, with hints of Irish folk song and a touch of Brahms, it’s an attractive work that merits this committed and rewarding performance.” —Fiona Maddocks
