Memorable foodie experiences in Taiwan!
Food is such an important part of travelling for me, like it is for so many of us. When I visited Taiwan in February, I went not knowing a huge amount about Taiwanese food but an open mind to try lots of new things.
Photo 1 (📸 ) This was taken at Luodong night market, a very busy street food market with dozens (if not hundreds) of stalls selling affordable local snacks and delicacies.
Photo 2 - For dinner one evening I ate at Silk's Place Yilan. Cherry Valley Duck at Red Lantern restaurant is famous across Taiwan and here you'll be served an elaborate set menu of duck dishes. A highlight was the crispy duck skin sushi rolls which we couldn't get enough of!
Photo 3 - Stinky Tofu - you might already have seen my tasting video reel (if not then check out my feed to watch it). Stinky Tofu recently replaced horse milk as the most disgusting thing I've eaten. Whilst walking around the night market we kept getting a waft of a disgusting smell, turns out it was the infamous stinky tofu, which tasted as bad as the smell. It's worth noting this is clearly a personal preference as lots of people were queuing up for it.
Photo 4 - Ti-hoeh-koé also known as pig's blood cake, is a blood pudding served on a stick as street food in Taiwan. It's made with sticky rice and pig's blood often topped with peanut powder. It was rich and actually pretty tasty, although it was super filling and made your teeth stick together!
Photo 5 - Din Tai Fung is a Taiwanese restaurant chain specialising in xiaolongbao, a type of bao with 18 folds. In November 2009 the Michelin Guide awarded the restaurant's first Hong Kong branch at Tsim Sha Tsui, Silvercord Branch, a Michelin Star, although all of the branches are very popular. I did try making xiaolongbao myself at which was great fun, although they didn't turn out quite like this!
