Lovely news about Lady M.
Some more lovely news today! We won Runner up Best Drama Award at The Women Over 50 Festival
The drama judges were Heather Coombs and Jemma Churchill actors who have many years’ experience working in film, on TV and stage who said:
This is a bold film about confronting The Crone head on. The magic that comes with being an older woman. The passion, energy and intelligence that has increased with age rather than lessened. The invisibility of this fact.
We loved the nod to ancient matriarchal shamanic practice being akin to theatre work and that theme feeds in to the original play by Shakespeare.
The central performance by Samantha Bond is powerful and takes no prisoners. Terrifying. Very similar to Lady M herself. She is beautifully supported by a group of actors who have fallen from glory because they’re uncastable due to their age, both as female performers here and possibly elsewhere.
We saw actresses of our youth now on the scrap heap and possibly for these actors, they have found themselves usurped by younger performers. Hence it has a layered effect for the viewer. Familiar working actresses who somehow we had forgotten about too.
The film is not merely about female actors and their visibility in the British Theatre as they get older but we also felt the film taps into the essence of WOFFF itself and women everywhere.
Our very close Runner up is LADY M by Tammy Riley-Smith
