Back in the day, in fact the early 00's, LWR championed R'n'B. This was R'n'B that expanded the borders and this was not just Rhythm and Blues but rather the hybrid of this genre mixed with bashment to from Rhythm and Bash. Here is an example

Some of your favourite LWR djs from that era will be bringing the flava in the form of their track/s choices and mixes to this page. Keep it right here for some nostalgia

Classic music is the legacy of some of the greatest vocalists and producers that have ever lived. The passion for the music spanning this period far outweighs the music of today and many of the djs and presenters playing on LWR today have re-hashed the atmosphere and mystique of that era.

Remembering Derek Boland

18/11/2017

Yesterday was the anniversary of the passing of one of our legends / greats. It was the "Bad Young Brother" aka Derek Boland https://www.facebook.com/profile.php… who was an original member of the LWR family in the 1980's and his subsequent return to our line-up in the 2000's. His talents were phenomenal.
When he was headhunted at the behest of our man Rob "the solicitor" whilst he was working at Bentley's in Canning Town, he became the first DJ that I heard and saw control a crowd the way he did. Single-handedly mixing the good grooves and tearing up on the mic. A master at both arts. Just check out his tracks and get a feel of the guy's talent.
Going back i have great memories with Derek from the days when he was warm up for Froggie to the times he and another of our legends Neil Charles entertained the packed crowds at Bentley's.
For those who remember when he used his original concept using drops from Thunderbird's Jeff Tracey, Lady Penelope and Parker. It is left for me to go in to the archives and dig up some of his shows from the 80's. Theres a lot you need to know so we will talk in the mean time. BYB R.I.P. Look out for more information from the LWR vaults. LWR you are in Tune to!

Following the publication of the LWR 925 roll call from the 1980's we are doing a coverage of the noughties. This period was when the station was revived as the music scene sank to some depressing depths and needed direction. The website will be telling the real story of the trendsetting urban music network and the forays in to Birmingham and Milton Keynes as well as a return to our spiritual home at Westow Hill, Crystal Palace. Also the advance from just broadcasting in London to the world via the internet.

The noughties incarnation of LWR involved some names of the 1980s combined with some of the BUZZ-ites of the 1990s and a new untested female contingent. No other station could boast as many ladies as us and certainly not with as much talent as ours.
