A massive thanks to .band for coming through as a two-piece even though half their band were struck down with a dastardly illness. Their set was one of the highlights of the night! 💫

They played an absolutely gorgeous handful of original folk songs and we would thoroughly recommend anyone who missed them to trek to see them wherever they play next! 👁

The final band to be announced for tomorrow’s launch is our very own ☄️

An eclectic three piece playing their London Début 👨‍👧‍👦

Notoriously elusive and difficult to book, I will reveal no more about them except to say that they are very good I promise 😏

All tickets for the launch are now SOLD OUT and very sadly there will be no tickets on the door

But do not fear, as this is only the first of many Phase events

The next band on the lineup is a real treat for the ears 👂

If you’ve ever been down to south east London you may have come across this lovely bunch of boys strumming, twanging out gorgeous beats and grooves straight out of a smokey 60s saloon 🍻

They are just aren’t just quasimodo, they’re the full modo ✨

I have a ‘hunch´after seeing them once you’ll be ‘back’ for more

Here at Phase we don’t do anything in half measures…

Our evening of music will cover land, sea, and air, from the distant oceans to the Wild West ☀️

🛥 If Memory of Speke transport you to a Lizzy Mercier Descloux concert on a cruise ship, The Uglies drop you sandy and drunk into the Nevada desert. 🏜

The soundtrack to a Spaghetti Western or a 1960’s gangster movie, blending elements of Serge Gainsbourg’s Bonnie and Clyde, The Shadows, and Ennio Morricone 💣

They put on a blinding live show and we’ve had them in mind for the launch for a very long time 🌵

👀 Come and see the one and only Memory of Speke at the Phase #1 Launch party next Saturday! 👀

💣 We first saw these guys last year and fell in love. After that we went to see them at nearly every show they played

They have stumbled upon a unique blend of high energy nautical whimsy and impossibly naughty, danceable grooves. An experience akin to being in a lifeboat, in the middle of the ocean, caught in a storm, with a boxer, who plays the saxophone. They really are one of a kind and not one to miss!

And they are just one of the incredible bands playing next Saturday

MUSIC - Modern Woman Interview

♠️ Modern Woman are an experimental London band. Their sound could be described as an eery folk horror film soundtrack, infused with post-punk bass-lines, David Denyer’s percussion and violin and Sophie Harris’s dreamy 60s vocals.

♠️ Their lyrics and visuals take inspiration from myths and folk tales, reference film and poetry and address political themes such as climate change.

♠️ They released their first and long-awaited EP Dogs Fighting in my Dreams last September.

Interview excerpt - ‘The Mesmerising Martina’ ( )

This is not so much an interview, more an artist portrait, attempting to capture Martina Dolcimascolo’s unique artistic vision and infectious personality.

On a cold November morning, we finally managed to sit down and discuss some of the questions that we were left with after first coming across her work. Martina’s talents are many. She’s an incredible young painter, filmmaker, costume designer, and practicing mystic and over the course of our conversation she took us on a journey through her life and work.

In Phase One you can look forward to reading about puppetry, folklore, cinema, literature and Sicilian surrealism.

This is our very last call-out post for issue #1, we promise!

We just kept receiving such great submissions and we couldn’t resist asking for some more

Phase magazine is looking for regular contributors. We need talented writers with an interest or involvement in the music scene to write pieces on new music, recent gigs, and music history

We aren’t just looking for gig-economy writers, we want to integrate members into our permanent team!

This is your opportunity to cast a critical eye over contemporary music and get your ideas and discoveries published inside the hallowed pages of Phase #1

We have now closed submissions for every other section, but there is a gap in music with your name on it!
