A few shots taken from Music Futures Event, which was held at the legendary 💥

It was such a great event filled with talented creatives, who I had the pleasure to sit down with and speak to about their work in the music industry.

‘Working with Harminder was a real pleasure, not only was he very friendly, yet professional, he was able to provide clear feedback on what he needed from me as an artist to make sure the mix and master came out as clean and clear as possible. He provided nothing but quality in the masters, and honestly, my own music hadn’t made me feel the way it did after he worked his magic. He knows bass music incredibly well and I highly recommend his services for any mastering needs. I will be recommending Sonic Art to anyone who needs professional mastering done.

Hearing feedback like this from artists I work with makes what I do all worth the while. Knowing how important music is and how it translates for artists means that the upmost care is taken to support with advice on mixes before going to master. This is very important to achieve the best quality of sound.

Danté aka is a young producer coming straight out of New Zealand. His latest release is a remix of Andy Tyler’s, In My Coat and is available now to stream and download. Check the link in his bio for more.

Appreciation post to the classic compressor that is the 1176. Aggressive, smooth, punchy are some of the words used to describe the sound that can be achieved using this revolutionary bit of kit, reimagined by the audio titans

I love using this compressor on a range of material. I used it on some hats to create space in this particular mix. Using a fast attack and release pushes the transients down which in effect, pushed the sound further away from the listener. A prefect solution for those annoying poky transients in a digital world.

Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Happy mixing 🤘🏽

Your sound is about to get that much clearer, wider, more defined and translate better on all systems!

The SSL fusion is a beautiful bit of analogue kit which enhances sound with so much class, clearing the clutter and leaving a polished sounding piece of work.

If you need to add that extra bit of sparkle and punch to your tracks, get in touch now to discuss how I can help.

Happy to share a mix and mastering project I worked on earlier this month by the folk/hip hop act, Jargon Jams with a feature from Ruzi.

Due to COVID, professional recording facilities were inaccessible so all of the instrumentation and vocals were recorded at home and the drum track was a single lofi sample, which lacked definition and clarity.

The track had all the vibe but needed to punch and be given a polish to bring it to life, which is where I stepped in.

By layering the drums with a few key hits and applying the right processing, I was able to take a home recording and turn it into a track that both artists were very happy to share with the world and that has received support from on Delite Radio

The Balance is now available to stream on all platforms! Link in bio.

Get in touch if you have a project that you believe in but needs a professional mix.

GOTTA BE: a collaboration between two very talented artists stretching over two continents. Mumbai’s brings the infectious rhythm with Manchester’s giving the track a voice, with his tight flow that gets your head nodding and body moving.

When the vocals came in to be mixed, there was a lot of noise and masking by the different layers. We went in, cleaned them up and then created the separation needed to make sure everything had its space in the mix. As it’s a dance track, it was important that the vocals stood out and moved with the beat.

We also mastered the track and one of the first moves made was to level the bass to get those speakers moving. Surgical eqing, light compression and few magic tools helped shape and level the whole track, ready to share with the world!

With support from Mary Anne Hobbs on 6 music, this one is primed to kick down some doors.

Bass processing: I needed to tame, colour and enhance a sub-bass to make sure it holds its own on a set of speakers but also cuts through on smaller devices. I was able to achieve the sound I was after with thanks to ’s The Monster and FG-REd for bringing that control, ’s Vitamin for adding that colour and ’s SSL 4000 E for adding that little extra spice. Job done 👌🏽

When I want a warm and punchy drum sound, I love to pull out the Pultec EQ for its smooth and rounded character and push it into one of my favourite compressors: Fatso by . Dial in some warmth to squash the tops and there I have the beginnings of a drum sound full of vibe and texture.

Creative mornings.

There’s nothing like having your hands on the controls when designing and sculpting sounds. Manipulating an audio source as it plays connects you to the music and helps create intuitive movements, which can be difficult to replicate when drawing in automation. In my experience, it’s these details that help create a more natural and cohesive sound.

How do you set yourself apart as an artist?

Every so often, you hear a piece of music that just sucks you in - it speaks to you on a different level and temporarily transports you to another place. That’s when you know the artist who made it has tapped into something that only they possess and have been able to translate it through their music. That’s where the real magic lies.

Here are three incredible tracks that did just that:

1. - Elle (forthcoming)
2. Jesse Rutherford - Drama
4. - Legend has it

Trust your taste and be honest with your music. That is when it will speak volumes and have a better chance of connecting with others too.

“A cross over masterpiece...”

‘Timeless’ has reached its silver anniversary and has undoubtedly attested to its name as being a classic record that has stood the test of time.

Reaching 25 years and still being enjoyed, not only by people who grew up with the music, but also by a younger generation. It was a body of work that connected communities, opened the doors for new artists and began a legacy of work to follow. And it’s still going strong!

This level of esteem is what every artist strives to achieve with their work (or should be). Creating music that isn’t just following a fashion, but a true representation of themself and that can sound just as good 25 years down the line.

To celebrate, has launched a time capsule with loads of forthcoming coming exclusives and freebies including a remix of ‘Inner City Life’ by the legend that is Peshay. To get involved, head over to www.goldietimeless.com and sign up now.

“Stranded in a deserted train station in Ella, Sri Lanka with my family. I ran across to the other side of the platform to find our driver.
As I looked back at my wife and child, I knew I had to capture the emptiness of the station and surroundings. There was a perfect eeriness created by the bright blur of lights.”

What inspires you?

Inspiration and creativity can come in many forms. Be it through sound, visual art, food - creativity can be found all around us.

What I find myself being deeply inspired by are things that I can connect to, and that make me feel something whether it be joy, awe, excitement or fear.

Whenever I travel, I’ll always have my camera, ready to capture the world around me. There’s an endless source of inspiration all around us that can be tapped into by experiencing new places, smelling new smells, tasting new food and meeting new people.

I feel most relaxed and free when travelling and it is the best time for me to put things in to perspective and to reset.

Let us know what inspires your creativity.

Vinyl culture has been a big part of us since discovering the underground music scene back when we were kids. It was a very exciting time to live in London with the birth of Hardcore and Jungle, then UK garage later down the line.

There was always a feeling of excitement before listening to your favourite DJ, hanging on every track waiting to hear new and exclusive dubplates. Buying the latest rave tape pack and listening to them on repeat was like religion to us.

A fond memory I have is staying up til the early hours of the morning to hear drop remix of Bambaata for the first time on . It is something lost in today’s digital world where music is available at the click of a button.

There was also something very satisfying about having to save your money and make the journey to your local record shop to listen to the latest releases and white labels, knowing that you couldn’t buy everything so you had to get it right. Any movie buff would agree, it’s a bit like spending a big part of your evening at the video shop selecting a movie and then asking the guy behind the counter if they had any spare posters you could have. (Well, we did anyway)

As we are consumed by the digital revolution, there’s something very nostalgic and therapeutic about powering up a pair of turntables, slamming down some of your favourite vinyls and being immersed in a sound that you love.

It’s great to see many labels like still pressing their music to vinyl, keeping the vinyl culture alive. Long may it live.

We’d love to hear your opinion on this.

This shot was taken at the legendary , once home to the largest printing factory in Western Europe, but today hosts an array of live and electronic events. The venue has done an incredible job at preserving the original aesthetics of the venue, which still houses the giant machines and printing presses to create an ‘industrial’ environment reminiscent of the warehouse raving days.

hosted this particular night with an incredible line up of electronic music artists. The sound system at Printworks makes listening to loud music an immersive and almost hypnotic experience. It’s exceptionally well-balanced and without the piercing overtones that can be caused by harsh frequencies. Although some sound system’s can play a big part in tracks sounding awful, a poor mixdown is usually the real culprit.

Getting tracks ‘club ready’ can be a challenging task. There are a number of processes that need to be considered in order for music to translate well on a PA system. At Sonicartco we ensure that your music sounds great on any club system.

Before the digital revolution, studios were comprised solely of analogue gear. Making music was a challenging process that required a lot of time, money and technical know-how. Tape machines would have been (and still are in some cases) an integral piece of equipment used in the recording and mixing process.

Recording to tape adds its own unique characteristics. When people talk about a band having a ‘sound’ or the sound typical of an era, tape would have had a big part to play.

Some of the desirable effects of tape processing is its ability to tame transient peaks, smooth harsh frequencies and add ‘warmth’ to a signal.

Nowadays, we are lucky to have great sounding digital emulations from companies like and each with their own character and sound.

At Sonicartco, we love the sound that tape can give to tracks. It’s a great tool to use for creating a vintage, driven sound.

Check out , who have put out a fantastic sample pack with a collection of eclectic sounds processed using tape to inspire creativity.
