Just got back from Japan. I picked up a game from a British publisher and one from a Taiwanese publisher about Dutch tulips.

Not sure I fully understood the task.

The Japanese version of Kittin by looks incredible though, so had to buy it!

What does it take to raise the biggest badest fighters in Crown of Ash?

This slithering demon is what you'd get, if someone let the T Virus from resident evil loose on the town from the movie Tremors.

To raise this fighter, a player would need to spend 5 bone, 4 ash and 3 blood. This won't be easy.

So why bother with the big guys when raising 6 strength in lower level fighters is easier, cheaper and more flexible?

Well the simple answer is, space... Players can only attack and defend outer regions with up to 2 fighters and the central region with up to 3. So without raising any big fighters players might find themselves underpowered.

But the advantage to having lots of low level fighters is being able to deliberately throw battles and make other players use their strongest Combat cards. Not to mention they might be worth additional victory points at the end of the game.

What are people's opinion of card standees?

In Crown of Ash players spend resources to raise fighters from the board, they then use these fighters to attack and defend the 7 regions of the board to gain Victory Points.

We've been toying with the idea of creating standees of the fighters for a deluxe version, that once raised from the board replace the cards. These don't affect gameplay but make the game more 3 dimensional and allow more of the board art to show throughout the game.

One disadvantage would be each player would need a cardboard screen to hide their available and attacking troops behind.

What do people think, would they like to see more of this?

What does it take to raise the biggest badest fighters in Crown of Ash?

For this colossal blood demon, alchemical rituals are always preferable to leg day at the gym.

To raise this beast, you will need to return 5 blood, 3 ash and 2 bone to the supply. Blood and Sulphur are a little different to Ash and Bone as they are less common resource at the start of the game.

When resource are scarce players have a few options. Build a structure that offers the desired resource or participate in combat.

Combat always rewards you with resource, win or lose. This might be gold (a wild resource that also allows players to build) or special ingredients, (which allow players to choose the resource they desire.)

Cunning necromancers can purposely leave regions of the board poorly or undefended to invite combat and earn resource out of turn.

What does it take to raise the biggest badest fighters in Crown of Ash?

This handsome beast is the toughest of the Sulphur type fighters. We don't have a name for it yet, so if you're feeling inspired stick your suggestions in the comments.

To raise this fighter a player would need to discard all of the alchemical ingredients shown on the card from their supply. 5 Sulphur 3 Bone and 2 Ash, sound like a lot? Well that's because it is. Raising one of these 6 strength fighters is not easy and there are only 4 in each game.

Savvy necromancers will need to build the right structures and know when to use precious gold to replace any of the required ingredients and beat their rivals to the alchemical punch. (Yes, in our version of the idiom 'punch' is the fruity drink served at parties)

The creature stood completely motionless like a statue carved out of sulphur crystal… a mistake in the alchemy maybe?
Suddenly, it lurched with lightning speed impaling an unsuspecting rodent with its sword.

The ground shook and the clanking of chains grew stronger as it approached its new master.
The reason the beast was restrained was no longer clear, but where was obvious. A path of destruction led to where the powerful creature had burst through the thick dungeon wall.

The last of the potion dissipated into the blackened soil between two charred stumps.
Within minutes the ground was alive with tendrils of sinew and gore ascending the stumps and twisting into a monstrous mass of flesh.
Once fully formed the demon violently thrashed, pulling hard on its long limbs.

Suddenly it snapped loose uprooting itself and leaving 2 deep gouges in the earth.
