Our next artist feature for Volume 6 is the amazing based in Denmark with their wonderfully wacky psychedelic pieces in the style of old comics and pop art. “My name is Nicolai and I’m the person behind the pseudonym Koggi. Since I was a child I have always had a vivid imagination and I think that reflects in my work. Most of my works are posters for bands and I have a dream of creating my own comic one day.” We can’t wait to see the comic Koggi! Judging by the way your work looks in print, that’s a dream you need to fulfil!

Order Volume 6 now from the link in our bio to see Koggi’s work among the other creatives, musicians and party-people we’ve documented and celebrated in this issue. 💫

Outside of his own publications, his art and writing has been featured in The Aither, Rat World, Sweet Mammalian, Battle Magazine, and more, and most recently on the cover of the poet Josiah Morgan’s newest collection ‘i’m still growing’. For our final interview of Volume 6 of Kinda Weird Mag we went to the mighty Manchester we go to meet one of the most infectiously impressive and brilliant bands we’ve ever accidentally come across ever - the amazing Maruja. Having first discovered this brilliant bunch closing Ritual Union festival in Bristol last year, we were instantly hooked and have been following their journey ever since. They are flying right now, with one of the most exciting and electric live shows you’ll ever see. After 10 years of hard graft as working class brothers of the North... It couldn’t be more well deserved. We’re so excited to see what they do next - they ooze the spirit that the music industry needs right now, they are everything we love to see. This chat we had and the killer show at The White Hotel that followed were both an honour and a joy to witness, the 12 hour round trip on a coach felt like a meagre price to pay for their presence. We can’t wait to see it in print.

Tomorrow Volume 6 comes OUT OUT! Order yours now from our website, if you’re in London Town get down and celebrate with us tomorrow night 24/05 for a big fat headline supported by , and at . Our next artist feature for Volume 6 is the amazing Büsra Ozen who is a passionate graphic designer with a background in fine arts based in Istanbul, Turkey. Büsra has had an impressive career so far in the art world as an art director/development manager in avenues of advertisement, marketing, post-production, character and environment development. “Illustration has always been her passion, serving as her personal haven where she can escape the rules of graphic design or brand guidelines, producing solely for herself.

In the moments between her demanding work schedule, she finds solace in her personal space, an area where she can indulge in playing games during evenings or weekends. Her illustrations, therefore, serve as a reflection of her inner world and ideas. They provide a sense of freedom, making her feel true to herself.” It’s an honour to feature you Büsra, we’re so glad to see the places you escape to for yourself.

Our penultimate interview feature of Volume 6 took place with the delightful . We returned to Brixton’s, The Windmill yet again for a famous Pink Eye Club’s Sunday Roast. This time around we were there to meet Rats-Tails who are simply wonderful both on and off the stage. Gathered up in the garden we got to have a lovely lengthy chat for Kinda Weird Mag ahead of their dazzling performance, where Courtney handed out sourdough bread to the bands admirers in the audience. A couple of weeks later, we had the pleasure of having them take the stage for us! We can’t wait to share our first ever chat, hopefully of many, with this lovely bunch.

Check out their new single ‘Flowers’ and come and celebrate with us on Friday, at with / / and . Tix in bio! If you can’t make it, pre-order Volume 6 instead!

10/05/2024

We had the absolute honour of hosting our friends Flowers of Evil for a night of complete party vibes at The George Tavern last month, before which we sat down for an exclusive interview for Volume 6. Having caught the band in Manchester last year, we decided immediately that we couldn’t get by until we knew more about them - adorned with olympic outfits and endless energy they are an absolutely infectious bundle of fun that you want to be a part of. Flowers of Evil were also a part of Come Closer, our debut film at Kinda Weird, amongst many other legends speaking up about the issues faced by grassroots musicians in the UK. We implore you to go and see them, we’ll be escaping to Evil Land whenever we get the chance. We hope you enjoy this chat as much as we did.

Pre-orders are now open for Volume 6! Head to the link in our bio to get your orders in, we have also released some one-off merch for this issue so if you have the means to, go wild!

Come on down to Kinda Weird Weekends tomorrow!!! It’s freeeeeeeeeeeeee. ✨

Meet the incredible our next artist feature for Volume 6. We are suckers for trippy animations at Kinda Weird and Francesca is the queen of everything you need in that department. Co-founder of CIANG studio, making the likes of music videos, animated shorts, graphic novels and comic books - we can’t wait to print this!

“Her uniquely extravagant style of drawing features surreal landscapes inhabited by strange anthropomorphic characters. Lemons, frogs, and tigers wearing masks with human attributes. Everything can become a character with a strong personality. Mushrooms, in particular, are always present in her works. Mushrooms with eyes and long legs create a psychedelic atmosphere in her drawings.”

MERCH DROP! We at Kinda Weird need your HELP! We’re doing a crowdfunder of sorts. We’re used to flogging magazines over a merch table at Kinda Weird Weekends but with the whopping plans we’ve got in store for the rest of 2024, we need to look to our community for a little bit of help.

We find ourselves at a tipping point, a crossroads, a sticky sitch in our financials (which a cost of living crisis and a barren landscape of making money in the industry you love will do to you) - we know times are tough for so many of the community right now, sending love and strength to anyone else who might be struggling.

If you are in a position to buy a ticket, a t-shirt, a magazine, a limited edition poster, take out a membership, any or all of the above - now would be a lifesaver of a time to do it to help us get Volume 6 on the printing press by the weekend.

For merch: https://www.kindaweirdmagazine.com/shop

For memberships: https://patreon.com/KindaWeirdForever?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink

We’re completely independent, we fund this thing ourselves, we’ve made a loss for longer than we can remember - but we believe in a future where the grassroots sector of the music industry can thrive off the love of it. We believe in the people we are documenting and celebrating. We believe in the bands we’re putting on stages. We believe in the voices we are giving a platform to be heard.

We’re not going to stop, but any help we can get now will give us the muscle to take it all the way.

Links to all the fun things you can buy to save our souls can be found in our bio. Spread the word! All love and peace out! ✨

Sungmo Kang is an incredible artist from South Korea, with a pool of the cutest part animal / part human characters dressed in the most badass clothes we could die for. “I’ve been drawing a series called Club PUPPEKO!! since 2018. Up the Showers! The next interview for Volume 6 took place in the pub that Kinda Weird started in, the early days were as DIY as it gets and the lovely came all the way from sunny Brighton to play our first show here since we launched Volume Two. is a grand palace of an establishment that we have had the pleasure of running around in for a few years now. We first caught Austen Showers at their local lair supporting our friends and we were hooked. Watching Charlie, the lead singer, spin around on the cobbles of the venue the first time we came across her - we didn’t know what to expect when she came up to our digs. We won’t forget it in a hurry! This legend managed to spring herself from a table at the back of the room into - what must be - the first mosh pit the pub has seen, if not ever, then surely for many
years. Catch the full interview in Volume 6, which is coming so soon we could SCREAM!

Meet our next artist feature for Volume 6, the wonderful .crickets from Budapest, Hungary. With a style derived from a touch of weirdness, a bucketload or absurd fun and a playful aestheticism, we sign ourselves up with ease. “I like blending detailed surfaces with abstraction and creating exciting perspectives, background elements with tiny details. I am very interested in illustrating imaginary scenes and stories that capture a moment but convey more about what is happening or what is to come.”

We’re chuffed to feature you Zsófia, welcome to the Kinda Weird club. ♥️
