China Southern Airlines has introduced non-stop flights from Shenzhen, China to Mexico City, marking the carrier's return to Mexico after a two-year hiatus.
The new route, which covers a distance of 7,639 nautical miles (14,147 km), is the world's ninth-longest non-stop scheduled passenger service.
Due to Mexico City's high elevation, which affects take-off performance, the flights make a stopover in Tijuana, Mexico, for refueling on the return journey.
China Southern previously operated flights from Guangzhou to Mexico City via Vancouver, but has now shifted its operations to Shenzhen, its third busiest airport.
The airline's decision to switch to Shenzhen may be influenced by its proximity to Guangzhou and Hong Kong, as well as the potential for increased demand from Chinese businesses and tourists in Mexico.
