China Southern Airlines has introduced non-stop flights from Shenzhen, China to Mexico City, marking the carrier's return to Mexico after a two-year hiatus.

The new route, which covers a distance of 7,639 nautical miles (14,147 km), is the world's ninth-longest non-stop scheduled passenger service.

Due to Mexico City's high elevation, which affects take-off performance, the flights make a stopover in Tijuana, Mexico, for refueling on the return journey.

China Southern previously operated flights from Guangzhou to Mexico City via Vancouver, but has now shifted its operations to Shenzhen, its third busiest airport.

The airline's decision to switch to Shenzhen may be influenced by its proximity to Guangzhou and Hong Kong, as well as the potential for increased demand from Chinese businesses and tourists in Mexico.

The US government has allocated $19.7 billion for airport infrastructure projects through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) as part of a broader $105 billion reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The funding aims to modernize over 3,000 airports nationwide, including major hubs like Dulles and O'Hare, and smaller regional airports, to enhance passenger experience and safety.

The AIP provides grants for various development projects, such as constructing new terminals, renovating TSA checkpoints, improving baggage handling systems, and upgrading plumbing and electrical infrastructure.

Specific airports that will receive funding have not been announced yet, but more than 3,000 facilities across the country that are part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) will be eligible.

A monumental leap forward for international air travel took flight yesterday when Thai Airways International (THAI) and Turkish Airlines secured a memorandum of understanding. The anticipated partnership will focus on the cut-throat competition prevalent on Asia-Europe routes.

Commonly, airline collaborations entail synchronising schedules and revenue sharing. For instance, Qantas Airways and Emirates have a working partnership on Europe-Australia services. However, these arrangements need the green light from competition regulators in each operator’s country.

Apart from enhancing their networks, this alliance would catalyse daily flights between Bangkok and Istanbul, as elucidated by THAI. The announcement of an exact take-off date for the service is aboard for today. On the other hand, Turkish Airlines already facilitates bi-daily travel to Thailand’s capital Bangkok.
