Behind a leather-goods shop, Mayfair’s most discreet table.

Automat

Behind the door of an unassuming leather-goods shop, a Mayfair icon returns with its confidence intact. Automat, once famed for importing New York diner glamour to London, has reopened on Mount Street with crisp tablecloths, cold martinis and a knowing polish. Its name nods to early twentieth-century automats where diners selected dishes behind glass, but the mood now is measured and modern. Burgers, lobster rolls, waffles and mac and cheese sit comfortably on the menu, rounded off with a particularly good pecan pie. Slip in for Automat Martini Hour, Tuesday to Thursday, 4pm to 7pm. A discreet reopening, and a door worth finding.

Slow travel, sunrise views and cabins that frame the Nile like a living painting.

Nour El Nil feels nothing like a big ship. Traditional dahabiyas move gently along the river, designed so the Nile is always part of the experience, with large windows, calm interiors and a sense of space that never feels rushed. Cabins are simple and elegant, with generous beds, crisp linens and views that change hour by hour. Days begin with coffee on deck, followed by temple visits, village walks and market stops, while meals are shared at long tables with fresh local cooking and wine. Decks are scattered with rugs, armchairs and daybeds for slow afternoons and long evenings under the sky. Add this to your Wonder List.

Seafood with theatre in the heart of Mayfair.

Lilibet’s

A townhouse restaurant just off Bond Street with a strong sense of occasion. The room leans into florals, marble and a statement oyster bar, setting the tone from the moment you walk in. The menu is seafood-led and direct: anchovy éclairs, crab tart, crudos and the Fish Triptych, where one fish arrives three ways.

This is a place for heels and martinis, long dinners that drift late, and a crowd that’s dressed for it.

Polished wood, white tablecloths and a central bar give Martino’s its mood, pulling people straight in from Sloane Square station opposite. The menu centres on classic Italian dishes - beef carpaccio with pecorino cream, short rib ragù tagliatelle and meatballs zuppetta a combination that’s been warmly received by London critics. Italian wines lead the list, with a concise cocktail offering alongside.

Definitely one for the list.

A fresh face in Wood Wharf that makes you forget you’re in the financial district. NORA’s modern Turkish table deftly balances the laid-back spirit of Istanbul with meticulous London polish: warm sesame-dotted pide arrives alongside smoky adana and tender pulled lamb manti that invite leisurely sharing, while mezze and charcoal grills feel both rooted and exuberant. A wine list that reaches eastward and raki cocktails add a dash of ambience to a space that’s calm by day, seductive by night - perfect for dinner with friends, or a long lunch that just keeps going.

From the team behind Lurra and Donostia comes Maset, their newest opening on Chiltern Street and a confident shift in mood. This time, it’s southern coastal France doing the talking, with Occitania as the guiding hand.

The room is calm, handsome, and exactly what Marylebone does best: a proper neighbourhood restaurant that feels settled from day one. The food follows suit. Pâtes au pistou and chicken farcis Niçois are the orders to remember, while the fougasse arrives light, warm, and dangerously moreish.

Cocktails deserve their moment too - especially a preserved lemon martini that’s all balance, no bravado.

Well worth the detour. And if you’re making a night of it, The Hart is just down the road for a post-supper drink.
