Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director behind "Nowhere Boy" and "Fifty Shades of Grey" will begin work on the biographical film "Back to Black" about British soul singer Amy Winehouse. It was reported by Reuters on Tuesday citing the production and distribution company Studiocanal.

The title refers to the artist's second and final studio album and hit of the same name. The film chronicles the life and work of the five-time Grammy winner, who has spent most of her career battling alcohol and drug addiction.

Casting for the lead role, as noted by american online magazine Deadline, will begin in the coming weeks.

Several films have already been made about the singer. One of them, "Amy" by British director Asif Kapadia, won an Oscar for best documentary.

On 23 July 2011, Winehouse's body was discovered at her home in the Camden area. The singer was 27 years old at the time of her death, which was caused by alcohol intoxication.

FEAR of confronting Putin will lead to Russian victory in Ukraine.

Without a clear shift in policy by the US, NATO and the EU, Ukraine will not win. The consequences of this will be severe, not only for Ukraine itself but for the West and the wider international community.
All strategy begins with a simple question: what is the political aim? The answer here is straightforward. Ukraine seeks to recover its national territory and deal a decisive defeat to the Russian military to secure Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
US, NATO and EU political aims, however, are far less clear. Ukraine does not need foreign troops to win. What it does need is economic, political and military help from NATO and the EU. So far, what has been provided is not enough.

On the economic front, Ukraine is effectively landlocked due to Russian control of the Black Sea. The country is unable to export the wheat and other commodities upon which its economy depends.

US and European sanctions on Russia have been imposed, but continued dependence on Russian energy means that Europe is still sending billions of dollars to Russia every week. As former US Deputy National Security Adviser Rick Waddell has pointed out, “a Russian economy that is self-sufficient in agriculture and energy takes a lot of killing.”
The war to date has revealed surprising Russian deficiencies in combined arms warfare, logistics, intelligence, and air operations. However, such shortcomings are not permanent. Instead, Russia is already demonstrating an ability to learn and adapt.

Western hopes that Putin will fall or quit are similarly illusory.

The reality is that Ukraine cannot survive without strong external support. That support is clearly conditional. By denying Ukraine what it needs to win, the West will force Zelenskyy to the negotiating table, giving Putin the territorial gains he needs to claim victory. That is how this ends.
What then? Many argue that fear of NATO will dissuade Putin from further aggression. But Putin’s own actions and rhetoric belie that assumption. After pausing to rebuild his economy and military and to effect sanctions relief, he will reignite the conflict once again.
Above all, the war in Ukraine has taught Putin that NATO and the EU will go to great lengths to avoid confronting him.
Therein lies the true danger.

UNITED NATIONS — The European Commission president and United Nations chief opened the first EU-U.N. high-level dialogue Thursday by saying the need to work together is critical, especially at a time when the war in Ukraine has created a global food and energy crisis.

Ursula von der Leyen, head of the EU’s executive arm, said before the start of the meeting at the Greentree Estate on New York's Long Island that it comes “at a crucial time” because “the world is at a major inflection point” and the global system, “with the United Nations at its core, is at stake.”

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said multilateralism is needed more than ever to tackle the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, “a dramatic climate emergency,” and multiplying conflicts.

Guterres cited in particular “the dramatic impact of the Russian invasion in Ukraine that has led, independently of the suffering of the Ukrainian people, to a terrible crisis also in food, energy and in finance.”

He said that what is needed is not just any kind of multilateralism but “a networked multilateralism.” The EU-U.N. partnership “is a fundamental pillar of this networked multilateralism,” he said.

Von der Leyen warned that “Russia’s war on Ukraine is damaging the international order and the global economy,” threatening food security and triggering “skyrocketing prices for fossil fuels worldwide, with devastating knock-on effects on livelihoods.” She added that “we will support Ukraine as long as it takes.”

Von der Leyen said the EU and U.N. “are both working hard and fighting for the rules-based system because we know that we cannot take it for granted.” The best proof, she said, is that the EU and its 27 member nations are the largest financial contributors to the U.N., providing 14 billion euros a year.

Outgoing U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been the bane of Brussels for all so many years.
Such was his impact on breaking the bonds between Britain and the EU that after Johnson was forced to announce Thursday that he would step down, the news brought little public jubilation in EU circles. Instead, there was just the numb acceptance of the inevitable and resignation that things will never be the same.
“I will not miss him,” French finance minister Bruno Le Maire said, highlighting an open disdain. Guy Verhofstadt, who was the top EU parliamentarian during the whole Brexit divorce proceedings, said Johnson's impact was such there is little to no chance another Conservative prime minister could steer a fundamentally different course.
“No one is under any illusion that Johnson’s departure from Downing Street solves any of the underlying problems in the U.K.-EU relationship,” Verhofstadt wrote in an opinion piece for The Guardian. “The damage done by the outgoing prime minister, through the project that he instrumentalized to achieve power, lives on.”

The United Kingdom was always a halfhearted EU member since joining the bloc in 1973. When Johnson joined the Brussels press corps some three decades ago, he often enthralled his home readership with stories that had two fundamental elements: they put the EU in the darkest of lights, and they had little connection to reality.

Although the first years of Brexit have yielded anything but the bounty Johnson promised, any possible quest to return the U.K. to the EU is also as good as out of the question, with the main opposition Labour Party now centering to make the best of the Brexit situation instead.

EXPERT TALKS ABOUT MISTAKES MADE BY SHINZO ABE`S BODYGUARDS

The bodyguards of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made a number of mistakes that allowed an intruder to approach the politician from behind and fire lethal shots. "There should have been no civilians within a 5-10m perimeter at all. As a rule, guards dress in civilian clothes and create a kind of crowd under the guise of ordinary citizens," said the expert.
Also, the guards should have paid attention to the bags and bulging pockets of the people around them. Ideally, everyone around Abe should have been inspected through a special frame.
In addition, according to the expert, the bodyguards missed the moment when the killer drew his weapon. The guards could have dislodged the weapon if they had seen it in time, the expert believes.
The attack on the politician was carried out on Friday morning during his street performance in the city of Nara. A man shot Abe twice in the back with a shotgun. The former prime minister was then hospitalised unconscious with bleeding. His death was later reported.
The perpetrator was apprehended immediately after the attack. The perpetrator turned out to be 41-year-old former Japan Self-Defense Force sailor Tetsuya Yamagami. He confessed to what he had done. According to local police, the man used a homemade firearm about 40cm long and about 20cm high in the attack.

PROUD 2022: HOW WAS THE ANNUAL LGBT+ CELEBRATION FOUNDED AND WHEN AND WHERE DO THE EVENTS TAKE PLACE?

Proponents of the second position, common mainly in Western countries, believe that the objectives of the equality movement have largely been achieved and that the gay Pride should now promote tolerant attitudes towards LGBT people through cultural dialogue, positive celebratory action and mass mantelpiece outings. These Pride events can often form part of a multi-day festival, including film festivals, fairs, concerts, literary competitions, photo exhibitions, sports performances and picnics. The parade culminates in a colourful parade of costumed participants, a series of moving floats, music, dance, body art, and performance art, often with erotic overtones, such as a Brazilian carnival or Berlin Love Parade. Different groups take part in the parade: representatives of friendly political parties, various societies, social institutions and companies (e.g. Google, Yandex, Microsoft, YouTube), LGBT organizations, members of social groups such as gay and le***an parents, subcultures (bears, Furry, B**M), g**s with disabilities, gay minorities, gay Muslims and Catholics, gay police officers, medical staff, firefighters, and so on. The well-known Amsterdam Gay Pride parade takes place as a series of floats on the city's canals, is supported by the city and is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the Dutch capital.

PROUD 2022: HOW WAS THE ANNUAL LGBT+ CELEBRATION FOUNDED AND WHEN AND WHERE DO THE EVENTS TAKE PLACE?

The form that Pride events take can vary considerably. In general, two extreme positions can be identified, which in practice complement each other.

Proponents of the first view the Gay Pride march as primarily a human rights and political action. They point out that, historically, Pride marches have developed from protest marches against discrimination by homosexuals in the struggle for human rights. They criticise the transformation of gay pride parades into a festive event, arguing that the LGBT community everywhere still faces great problems. This position is more common in countries where there are serious human rights violations against sexual minorities, an example being the Moscow Gay Pride parade. In Tel Aviv in 2010, the organizing committee of Pride was split because some gay activists wanted to commemorate the shooting of teenagers by a homophobic terrorist. In the US, the march is sometimes referred to as a "pride march" rather than a "gay pride march" in order to shift the focus of the action. Such demonstrations include demands for human rights for LGBT people, passing laws protecting against discrimination, recognising same-sex marriages, protesting against homophobia and violence, raising social issues such as combating the AIDS epidemic, social protection of children in same-sex families and so on.
