As Frieze Masters opens its doors, we’re very excited to see Portrait L in all her glory, a wonderful painting that happens to be almost two millennia old. Described by in at the weekend as the 'Mona Lisa of the Middle East', this beauty was unearthed by archeologist William Flinders Petrie in 1888 and enjoyed a charmed life, being owned by some famous collectors, including Léonce Rosenberg, the earliest champion of the Cubists and Picasso, until at some point in the late 20th century its antiquity, provenance and importance was entirely forgotten. We've loved working on the story with our client , the innovative London gallery who are bringing her to the fair… an ancient masterpiece, lost and now found.

Try as it might, the weather was never going to dampen spirits at this weekend. In fact, we all agreed that this year was very much a vintage edition. As expected, – who we profiled in the latest issue of Magazine – was the star of the show, resplendent as ever. But, as the American discovered for herself, judging the festival’s Best Dressed Competition gets harder every year. Meanwhile, It was great to finally see the all-new electric in action, and indeed the Spitfires, Thunderbolts and Mustangs flying over the estate as part of the D-Day anniversary celebrations. But the highlight for us was seeing extraordinary numbers of people dressed to the nines, dancing in the rain – that’s what it’s all about.

In issue one of The Islander, the biannual magazine we produce for , we wrote about the design inspiration behind the lavish makeover of the resort, including the villa-style ‘casitas' that make The Retreat such a delightful, leafy haven at this much-loved Tenerife resort. That spectacular update is now complete – and we just had the pleasure of experiencing the new Canarian-inspired décor, the private pools and the stunning new Retreat Club Lounge overlooking the ocean firsthand. We’ll report back in issue two but really, there's nothing quite like seeing it for yourself.

Buon Ferragosto! This is the weekend our Italian friends make a beeline for the beach – the luckiest among them heading to – the latest opening from . We got to know this historic hotel well while working on the branding for its relaunch last year, so we’re rather envious of anyone paying it a visit this summer.

The latest issue of has landed, replete with interior design trends, tastemaker profiles, location spotlights and insights into global property. Within its pages, we investigate how Italy, historically a popular destination for second-home owners, is now inspiring international investors to choose the country as a base. Writer and editor explains how even while living in New York for 15 years, the big skies and empty beaches of East Anglia (beautifully illustrated by .ager ) always felt like home. We peel back the curtain on interior designer 's recent reimagining of Grade II listed Poston House – a renovation, we're told, that makes the place "feel like something out of a Jane Austen novel.” And we look at the art and science of placemaking as practised by Cadogan Estate, Grosvenor Estate, and in Florence.

We love working with illustrators at Uncommonly. And so we’ve been revisiting some of the work commissioned for A Little Place I Know – a regular feature in Beyond, The St. Regis Magazine, in which a tastemaker describes a hidden-gem they love, which is then drawn by the likes of Emily Robertson, James Oses and Cassandre Montoriol. Our favourites include the cherry blossom tunnel at Japan Mint in Osaka, frequented by Marie Kondo – when she’s not busy decluttering (illustration by Oses); The Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, chosen by gallerist Pearl Lam (illustration by Oses); Cantinetta dei Verrazzano, a traditional bakery in Florence recommended by jeweller Carolina Bucci for iced tea and pastries (illustrated by Robertson); and Aqsunqur Mosque, an enchanting sanctuary in Cairo – recommended to readers by the late, great Philip Hewat-Jaboor, art collector, art-fair chairman and passionate Egyptophile (illustration by Montoriol). Hats off to the illustrators for creating such lovely work – which conveys a little of the wonder of discovering new places.

We always enjoy this moment when we’re putting a magazine together and the draft layouts go up on the studio wall. It’s a chance to stand back and finesse things a little – where we need an injection of colour, a dash of typographical drama, or even just a bit more white space. But we were especially excited this time around because this is Uncommonly's redesign of Goodwood Magazine – a publication very close to our hearts, which some of us started working on precisely a decade ago. (How did that happen?) And we're loving this, its latest iteration, and hope you do too – with more of the issue to follow shortly.

To celebrate the annual watch fest that is Geneva’s , here are some of the timepieces we've covered this year – which we especially covet. In no particular order, we’d be thrilled to wear… ’s Ultra-Complication Universelle RD (as seen at , the Oscars of watchmaking) ’s Octo Finissimo – perfect for a glam night out (in ’s Miami show) ’s Calibre 179 (from our round-up of the best new tourbillons) ’s Laureato Absolute 8Tech (among the best of carbon fibre watches) And last but not least, ’s Chronomètre Contemporain – by indie genius .rexhepi, who we were thrilled to profile. With thanks to contributors (Tim Barber) and

Regular readers of Magazine will be familiar with Lap of Honour, an interview we run on the back page of each issue that sees luminaries who connect with Goodwood share little-known secrets from their illustrious lives. For example, Heston Blumenthal's favourite elements are H and He – Hydrogen and Helium – the first two in the periodic table. Who knew? Props to the amazing illustrator , whose beautiful portraits have brought the series to life.

Regular readers of Magazine will be familiar with Lap of Honour, an interview we run on the back page of each issue that sees luminaries who connect with Goodwood share little-known secrets from their illustrious lives. For example, if Jony Ive could own any work of art, it would be a painting called Rain by the late Howard Hodgkin. Who knew?
