The changing face of Loggerheads

It was great to visit the allotments in Loggerheads this morning where I undertook an aerial mapping project for the allotment association. The aim was to provide an up-to-date map of the allotments using aerial imagery for the purpose of ongoing maintenance and administration.

Great day in Ightfield undertaking a visual inspection of St John the Baptist church.

Managing water run off into the sea is important particularly when in close proximity to old mine workings. These aerial photos and map provide a detailed aerial view of such a run off near Abersoch in north Wales.

Fortunate to go up Moel Llyfnant (near Bala) yesterday with a Team from Chemostrat Ltd and X-Ray Minerals to undertake an aerial survey of abandoned mine workings. The weather was great and the results extremely rewarding.

On Friday last week we were at St John The Baptists church in the village of Ightfield undertaking an aerial inspection of the church roof. This was completed in under an hour from the safety and comfort of the ground.

Aerial inspections performed by drones are quicker, safer and considerably cheaper than sending someone up on the roof or erecting scaffolding.

A great day last week crop scouting a field of maize (thank you W F Bourne Ltd) near Mucklestone. The object of the exercise was to test out new software and systems.

The first flight over the field involved taking images along a predefined flight path. These images were later stitched together to produce a composite map of the field. A crop health map was produced in GIS software to show areas of good leaf cover (green) and poor growth (orange/red).

A scouting mission was then flown using Skippy Scout (https://droneag.farm) to image the crop up close, and using AI to systematically analyse crop cover, occurrence of weeds and unhealthy crop.

All in all, a very successful day 🙂

Spent a lovely afternoon in Ightfield at an afternoon tea event to raise much needed funds for the church. The church warden kindly let me take up the DJI Mini 2 and get a few aerial shots of the church and the village. Hope you enjoy them.

PHOTOGRAMMETRIC MODELLING

This is the result of some 3D photogrammetric modelling I did on St Peters Church down the road in Broughton with Phil White, a local structural and heritage engineer (www.philwhiteassociates.co.uk), a few weeks back.

Images were acquired over a pre-planned grid and the resulting composite map and 3D model constructed using MapsMadeEasy (www.mapsmadeeasy.com).
