This year the Community Council scheme will change. As part of the proposed scheme it is being recommended that the industrial part of Starlaw Road should be moved from Seafield to Eliburn Community Council area. The map below shows the existing area in red and the proposed addition hatched. Together with these changes the current Community Council’s will be dissolved and nominations (elections if necessary) will be held after the summer. In addition to our AGM the Community Council meets 6 times a year at Newyearfield Community Education Centre, Hawk Brae. Our next meeting is on Wednesday 12th March at 19:00. All Eliburn residents are both entitled and welcome to come along to Community Council meetings. We would love to get representation from the houses north of Houston Road, east of Alderstone Road and Appleton Parkway so that their needs and concerns are better represented.

⭐ Gold Star for West Lothian primary pupils ⭐

Primary pupils in West Lothian are top of the class when it comes to literacy 📚🖊 and numeracy ➕➖ .

The number of West Lothian pupils achieving the expected levels in both literacy and numeracy were the highest on record for 2023/24, according to recently released national figures.

Details of primary school performance relating to Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) levels for the whole of Scotland were published by the Scottish Government.

It shows that hard-working primary pupils across West Lothian performed above the national average in every one of the 15 measures. A fantastic achievement by pupils, parents, teachers, support staff and our education officers.

Simpson Primary School reflecting on positive inspection

Staff at Simpson Primary School are reflecting on a recent visit from Education Scotland and Care Inspectorate inspectors.
A report published today (Tuesday 21 January) contains a number of positives for Simpson Primary School observed by the inspection team during their visit in September 2024.
During their visit, inspectors talked to parents/carers and children, and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.
Some of the key positives highlighted by the inspection team include:
• Across the school and nursery, children learn well in a climate of positive and respectful relationships with each other and staff. Children across the school are confident and eager to learn and as a result, they make good progress in their learning.
• School staff use digital technology effectively to enhance and deepen children’s learning.
• Children achieve well through participation in a wide range of activities. They develop an important range of skills and attributes through their achievements.
• Practitioners’ efforts to improve children’s learning in the nursery class are beginning to impact positively on children’s understanding of mathematical concepts. Children are beginning to use mathematical language appropriately during play.
Some areas for improvement were identified for the early learning centre with inspectors discussing these points with school staff and West Lothian Council representatives with work well underway to address the points raised following the visit.
Simpson Primary School head teacher, Andrew Brown said: “Our school and nursery aim, ‘Strive to be the best you can be’ perfectly expresses our thoughts and informs our next steps. We will continue to strive for the highest quality of learning and teaching in an environment where children can reach their full potential in every aspect. I would like to thank the entire school community for their continued support as we work together to develop our practices across all areas of the school and nursery.

“That’s why I feel it is really important to recognise those who demonstrate unwavering commitment to bettering our communities. Whose hard work, selflessness and determination is an inspiration to us all.
“I appreciate that those who carry out selfless work for their communities are unlikely to nominate themselves, but you may know someone who has volunteered in their community, spends their free time ensuring West Lothian continues to a be a great place to stay, or is active in working to improve their town or village.”
