🗳🗳🗳 SU 5 Student Leader Elections! 🗳🗳🗳

⭐️ VP Wellbeing and Community Candidate - Joanne Copson ⭐️

Hey! My name’s Jo and I am running to be your next VP Wellbeing and Community!
I’m an Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion MA student researching the academic and social impact of the pandemic on disabled university students. Previously, I’ve been elected as your Raise And Give Officer (19/20), Invisible disabilities lead (20/21), and Disabilities Officer (21/22)!
I wish to introduce a Student Experience Support Scheme to improve the wellbeing of all students. This will involve working with the Sexual Health Lead to introduce free accessible STI testing on campus for all students. I aim to work with the Mental Health Lead to advertise different resources surrounding mental health support to share across the student population via social media and host accessible activities with the Physical Health Lead to ensure students are staying active during their time at university. I am confident in supporting SU reps as my experience as an officer has taught me what kind of support students require when volunteering in the SU.
My Accessible Accommodation Scheme will update the current housing accreditation scheme with which housing companies provide accessible housing or have ground floor rooms and facilities. I will also use this scheme to ensure that the University share details about the accessibility of their accommodations so prospective students can find this information easily.
I will introduce a Zero-Tolerance Communications Strategy, which will involve sending communications out to all students at the beginning of the year highlighting the zero-tolerance policies the SU and university have against all forms of discrimination. I will ensure that any situations are dealt will properly and that hate crimes are being reported. I want Lincoln to be a safe community for everyone. Increasing the anti-prejudice resources offered by the SU will increase education around these issues and will create a safer campus environment for all.
My All Student Community Scheme will ensure that all students including mature and distance students are involved in SU decisions. This will involve hosting in person and online coffee mornings aimed at including these students and gathering feedback based around their experiences at university. I will ensure that sober spaces are offered on campus for students who do not wish to participate in nights out or fancy something different. Finally, hosting specific drop-ins for marginalised student groups will allow their specific issues and complaints to be resolved as quickly as possible.
My final manifesto point is to extend Social Sport with an Accessible Sports Programme where more students will be able to be involved with sport on campus. I will work with the Physical Health lead, the Disabilities Officer, and sports teams to host sessions for both disabled and non-disabled students to join. This will not take away from Social sport but will allow more students in the Lincoln Community to become involved and also increase participation in sport, a key part of the SU strategy.
Thank you for reading my manifesto and I hope you will consider voting me as your next VPWC!

🗳🗳🗳 SU 5 Student Leader Elections! 🗳🗳🗳

⭐️ VP Wellbeing and Community Candidate - Zuzanna Romanska ⭐️

Hi! I’m Zuzanna, the Women Officer for this academic year. Being a part of the Student Union made me realise how much potential this place holds to make our campus an even more diverse, inclusive, and mindful place. As an immigrant, working student, I understand a lot of struggles many of you overcome every day. If elected as your Vice President for Wellbeing & Community, I can introduce real-life changes to real-life concerns of our community.
WELLBEING
• Developing a conversation about depression: As a student living with this condition, I know how crucial it is to feel understood. I will ensure that all wellbeing resources continue to be accessible and diverse. Additionally, I will work on creating safe-space socials: open to all meetings that will give students a chance to exchange their experiences, while educating our community on how to support their peers touched by mental health disorders.
• Increased support for working students: juggling university and work responsibilities often feels like too much for one person. My priority will be to surround you with adequate support systems that will help you in sustaining a healthy work-life balance, search for alternative solutions if needed, and most importantly, prioritise your wellbeing.
• Weekly self-appreciation alerts: I will use my social media space mainly as a place to share the importance of self-acceptance and self-appreciation, providing you with supportive, mindful content every week.
COMMUNITY
• Look for volunteering opportunities that will go hand in hand with your wellbeing, that of others and our environment. Additionally, making them more diverse, inclusive, and accessible. Regardless of any extenuating circumstances, I would love you to be an active part of our community.
• Make sure that your engagement in our community’s life is recognised and adequately showcased
• Continue to extend our eco-awareness through local activities such as litter picking and online educational content.
• Continue to provide you with all relevant information about quality accommodation options and help you with this often-stressful process all the way through.
• Creating a flatmate code: how to maintain a good relationship with your flatmates and what to do to mitigate possible conflicts.
SAFETY
As the Women’s Officer, safety, and gender-based violence was always a key focus of mine. I will continue to emphasise students’ safety even more through:
• Continuation of regular self-defence classes and further distribution of safety alarms
• Working on the Reclaim the Night march to make an even greater impact on local authorities, getting your voices heard loud and clear across Lincoln.
• Continuation and development of campaigning against spiking issue, streetlights problem and overall safety on campus. I want to make sure that a person of any gender can walk home safely.

Like you, I struggle. Like you, I feel like student life is not quite as bright as it appears on promotional posters. And like you, I want honesty. If you’ll trust me with your vote, I promise to make your health and your safety my number one priority. Because your wellbeing is the key to our community’s growth.

🗳🗳🗳 SU 5 Student Leader Elections! 🗳🗳🗳

⭐️ VP Wellbeing and Community Candidate - Chuckwuemeka Omerenna ⭐️

I am here to serve you as a student wellbeing and community leader. All I asked for is for your support to make it a feat.
My name is Omerenna Kelvin Chukwuemeka, a Nigeria to be precise and I am presently studying with the Department of Computer Science with a specialization in intelligent vision.
I vying for the position of a student wellbeing and community leader where I can represent the students’ community in all ramifications to relate with their disturbing trauma which are but physical health, sexual harassment, mental health etc. affecting their human existence and inhabitation.
After careful study of the student population, I observed that there are challenges students pass through while trying to settle in their university endeavor. This is why I chose to act as a bridge in reducing the number of societal ill face by the student community.
I am clamoring for your vote not for my own perspective but because if elected as student wellbeing and community leader, I will bring unity among students by hosting and organising games, re-awaken adventure opportunities and collaborate with the student body internally to issues that can be holistically divulge before its footprint can be communicated.
I will bridge the gaps among the student community by collaborating internally across faculty and department in organizing programs that can reduced stress among the student community.
I will ensure that all their concerns relating to sexual harassment, physical abuse and mental challenges are being addressed in due time and on time.
With my experienced both at work and the community where I emanate from, I can vouched that if given the privilege to serve the university of Lincoln student community, our university environment will a pitch to be reckoned with.
I am open to positive criticism where possible
Thank you.

🗳🗳🗳 SU 5 Student Leader Elections! 🗳🗳🗳

⭐️ VP Wellbeing and Community Candidate - Ethan Day ⭐️

What do I want to do for you?

• Improve student’s safety around the city.
o Students simply do not feel safe in our city at night, therefore I plan to lobby the university for better lighting and CCTV around the campus and in the city.

• Improving safety in student houses.
o Student houses are more likely to be broken into therefore I would ensure that there are minimum security requirements as a part of the housing accreditation scheme.
o Running campaigns to support students to make their houses safer.

• Improve sexual heath services.
o Work with local partners and the university to improve the provision of sexual heath services for students.

• Re-introduce the Student Led projects to the Wellbeing network.
o Re-launch student led projects as a part of the wellbeing network to support student’s groups in their charitable activities.

• Improve mental health services.
o Work with student wellbeing and local partners to improve services for students.
o Work with the VPA to roll out look after your mate training within activities.
o Support the activities department to grow the feel good sport programmes.

Why do I want to be your VPWC?

I am passionate about student experience and want to do everything I can to listen to students and make positive change on their behalf. I want students to feel safe, whether this is walking home at night or in your own home - I will prioritise the safety of students. Additionally, mental health issues among students have risen considerably over the last few years, UCAS reported a rise of 450% of students reporting mental health issues, yet there is still a long way to go to ensure that students are supported. Mental heath issues are huge barriers to academic performance, so I want to work with students and local partners to remove as many of these as possible. In addition, I want to build on the relationship with the local community as well as foster a closer University of Lincoln Community.

Why am I the best candidate for you?

Over the past few years, I have spent a lot of time in various roles within the Campaigns Network, the Wellbeing Network, as a Society President, a senior academic rep and currently sit on the Board of Directors for Lincoln Students’ Union Trading Company (LSUT). I am a firm believer that everything that the SU does should have students at the centre of it. Through my role as a Non-Executive Director for LSUT, I have had the opportunity to work with members of the SU’s Senior Management Team to consistently ensure that students’ voice is heard and acted upon at the highest level, something that I would continue to do if elected as your VPWC. This experience and passion for supporting students and actively improving their experience is why you should vote Ethan number #1 for VPWC.

🗳🗳🗳 SU 5 Student Leader Elections! 🗳🗳🗳

⭐️ VP International Candidate - Vaibhav Jain ⭐️

To assist students from various countries, to assist them with their concerns, and to organise and assist them with a tour of the university in order to make them comfortable and to make them feel at home away from home. Since I also write blogs to assist students who are about to enrol at the UOL, it becomes easier for them to approach and share their concerns; if I become the VP International, they will be able to reach out easily, and together with the diverse team at the ISA, we will be able to make things better for everyone.

🗳🗳🗳 SU 5 Student Leader Elections! 🗳🗳🗳

⭐️ VP International Candidate - Patrick Haze Turaray Barco ⭐️

Hi! Hola! Bonjour! Nǐn hǎo!

I am Patrick Barco, an accountancy and finance student and the current LIBS officer. I have been active within the wider college and university community. As a business officer, I was exposed to some issues that affect our international students in different ways. This is why my manifesto touches on different areas within the international community.

I am standing to be your next VP International as I think that I have had the experience of seeing what some of the international students are facing and to be able to help them, was the most satisfying and fulfilling part of my role. This is also an amazing opportunity and platform for me to continue the works that I have been doing and this would give me the chance to incorporate and push forward my idea of “Breaking the Barriers between Home and International students”, which I have been involved in massively.

If I was to be elected I would aim to:

1) Strengthen the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
• Equality: To raise awareness of all the services that the university and the Students’ Union can offer to the international students
• Diversity: To increase the uptake and participation of international students in the activities, events, and societies in collaboration with the VP Activities
• Inclusivity: I will push forward translated documents (e.g guides, instructions, and student services information)
2) Accessible (24/7) prayer room
• I would like to support all of our brothers/sisters within different religions to have a centralised and accessible prayer room that will allow our students to easily pray at any time of the day, especially for the ones who needs it
3) Create more employability opportunities for international students
• Within the University of Lincoln, other than having an amazing degree and an unforgettable experience being offered. I will work collaboratively with the careers and employability to offer and create more voluntary and paid opportunities to develop skills for our international community
4) To hold international days every six weeks
• As a diverse community representing over 100 nationalities from all over the world, it is important for us to showcase and expose our home and international students to different cultures, which is why I want to hold international days every 6 weeks with the help of our cultural societies
• Alongside our international parties, I would like to increase the international student trips within the UK to make the most out of their experience and time within the university
5) International Buddies rep
• I would like to create representatives that will oversee our students who are registered with buddies’ scheme, which can then be a network where they can give their feedback or share their thoughts around the scheme or in general

I hope that you will consider and vote for me.

As an International Student myself, i can relate to the struggles and pain points of most international students. I know how lonely it can be, how difficult it is adjusting, how overwhelming and confusing it might be. My Job will be to provide maximum service to International Students.
