We are delighted to announce that our next book is "From the Dead: Dark Tales" by Edith Nesbit. The author is principally remembered for her children's books, but there was a dark side to her imagination, and in this volume we have collected twenty-three short stories in which Nesbit explored the macabre and sometimes downright horrific. From the newly collected Gothic ‘A Strange Experience’ (1884) and the classic ‘Man-Size in Marble’ (1887), through to ‘The Detective’ (1920) written almost four decades later, Nesbit turned time and time again to the supernatural. http://tartaruspress.com/nesbit-from-the-dead.html

A great review for Reggie Oliver's recent short story collection, "This Haunted Heaven" at Oddly Weird Fiction: "What I love the most about his work is that he is not only a master of atmosphere, but also the way in which he brings together past and present, creating a lingering sense of menace and danger. As I usually find while reading his work, his writing is so good that while in the middle of one of these stories, the house could have caught fire and I would have waited to do anything about it until I finished reading."

Eric Stener Carlson is interviewed in the new online issue of newSpecial (pps.24-25) and gives a great answer to the question "Am I an amateur writer?" -- "Definitely yes – from the Latin 'to love'." If all goes well, there should be a new collection of stories from Eric in 2025. The incomparable Michael Dirda recommends Mark Valentine's "The Thunderstorm Collectors" in The Washington Post: "Mark Valentine is quite rightly admired for his captivating personal essays about half-forgotten novels and curious works of nonfiction":

Hitchcock and Lovecraft endure, but there are many contemporary scary stories worth reading, including works by Mark Valentine and Michael Cisco.

"The Servants and Other Strange Stories" by John O'Donoghue was received another very positive review, this time from "Aurealis", the leading Australian SFF magazine:

"O’Donoghue’s characters are all Irish but stand out from each other by engaging with different facets of Irish culture in unique ways. The standout example is Father Seamus, the main character of ‘The Servants’. A robot who would be a priest, he is a particularly compelling figure as he struggles to gain acceptance from those who doubt that he even has a soul at all. Another is Mike Doyle of ‘The Islanders'... who finds himself lost on a seemingly mythical isle that functions as its own little world, tying into fey-like themes in new and unexpected ways." http://tartaruspress.com/o-donoghue-the-servants.html
