A woman is in a life-threatening condition after being stabbed at the Notting Hill Carnival, the Metropolitan Police have said.The 32-year-old woman was one of three people who were stabbed on Sunday, along with a 29-year-old man who is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a 24-year-old man, who police say they are waiting for an update on.

Police have so far made 90 arrests across the carnival and 18 of them have been for possession of an offensive weapon.

"Hundreds of thousands of people came to Notting Hill Carnival today to enjoy a fantastic celebration," the force said in an update on Sunday night.

"Our officers have been on duty working to keep them safe as part of a very carefully planned policing operation.

"Regrettably, a minority came to commit crime and engage in violence."

They added 15 officers have been assaulted during the carnival so far.

US border agents at the US-Mexico border have made a major drug bust, seizing more than $5 million worth of m**hamphetamine hidden among watermelons.

The m**h was wrapped in plastic and painted to look like the fruit, making it difficult to detect.

The operation led to the confiscation of over two tons of m**h, packed into 1,220 individual parcels.

This discovery is part of a broader scheme where produce shipments are used to smuggle drugs, with previous cases involving hidden narcotics in cheese and avocados.

The driver of the truck has been arrested and handed over to Homeland Security officials for further investigation.

Congress For Democratic Change (CDC) Secretary General, Jefferson Koijee, remains defiant hours following Thursday’s sporadic altercation between partisans of the CDC and police officer of the ERU after an early morning raid by LDEA on a ghetto nearest the vicinity of the CDC Headquarters.

Koijee told cheering partisans that an Emergency Meeting of the Executive Committee and all auxiliaries of the CDC are summoned this Friday August 23,2023 at the party headquarters in Congo Town, in response to the Party’s next plan of action.

We will assemble partisans and the citizens at our party’s headquarter and we will be moving on the Streets for the government to kill us all.
The current administration headed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is not able to protect the citizens of Liberia but to use armed police officers against armless and peaceful citizens.” CDC SG intoned.

The CDC Secretary General reaffirmed that CDCians are peaceful citizens and the that government needs to understand this , take time in their approach to issues and stop misjudging CDCians.

He said as heads of the massive people’s party (CDC) they will stand in the gap to put the government feet to the fire each day because the Boakai’s government came to power base on lies and criminality.

The youthful CDC Secretary General, Jefferson Tamba Koijee said the maintenance of peace surely rest in the hand of the government and threaten that any attempts further for LNP and the government to prevent Partisans from going at their party headquarters will be resisted by the people.Earlier former President George Weah expressed deep shock and concern over what he described as the police’s decision to open fire on unarmed civilians near the headquarters of the CDC and its surrounding area.

In a strong statement issued following the police raid on the CDC’s national headquarters located on Tubman Boulevard in Congo Town, Weah condemned the police’s actions, characterizing them as a significant threat to peace and a serious question over the United Party (UP)-led administration’s ability to govern responsibly.

“The UP administration boasts of their governing abilities, yet they are demonstrating a lack of tolerance. Why would they open fire on innocent civilians? The attacks began as early as 2 AM,” Weah stated. “This is not an example of good governance. We are a nation that upholds the rule of law. This must end immediately. We demand explanations.

French police on Wednesday removed dozens of migrants, including families with young children, from the forecourt of Paris City Hall as the capital prepared to mark 100 days until the start of the Olympic Games.

Police arrived at dawn to remove about 50 people, mostly women and children aged 3 to 10, who were bundled up in strollers, under blankets or covered with plastic sheets to shield against the rain.

The migrants packed their belongings and boarded a bus to temporary government housing in the town of Besançon in eastern France.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a leftwing pan-Africanist, has been sworn in as Senegal’s youngest president, pledging systemic change, greater sovereignty and calm after years of deadly turmoil.

The 44-year-old, who has never held an elected office, swept to a first-round victory on a promise of radical reform just 10 days after being released from prison.

“Before God and the Senegalese nation, I swear to faithfully fulfil the office of president of the Republic of Senegal,” Faye said before hundreds of officials and several African heads of state at an exhibition centre in the new town of Diamniadio, near the capital, Dakar.
He vowed to defend “the integrity of the territory and national independence, and to spare no effort to achieve African unity”.
The former tax inspector becomes Senegal’s fifth president since independence from France in 1960 and the first to admit to a polygamous marriage.
“I am aware that the results of the ballot box express a profound desire for systemic change,” Faye said in a brief speech after taking the presidential oath. “Under my leadership, Senegal will be a country of hope, a peaceful country with an independent judiciary and a strengthened democracy.”

Faye was among a group of political opponents freed from prison 10 days before the 24 March presidential ballot under an amnesty announced by the previous president, Macky Sall
