Leeds-based digital marketing agency Spike appoints new Head of Search Analytics

Following a strong period of growth, the agency has also welcomed a new Executive to its Outreach team

Leeds-based digital marketing agency Spike has announced two new hires in its latest wave of recruitment. Analytics specialist, John Earnshaw, has been appointed in a senior position as the agency’s new Head of Search Analytics and graduate Rosie Snooke has also joined as a Digital Marketing & Outreach Executive.

After working in the digital marketing sector for over nine years, John has climbed the career ladder going from Senior Software Engineer to Head of Software Engineering. This progression has given him a wealth of experience across digital marketing software development, web development best practices, third-party SEO tool integration and the creation of bespoke analytics frameworks. John also has an abundance of digital marketing knowledge that he is expected to bring to Spike’s SEO team.

Speaking about the role, John commented: “With almost a decade spent working in digital agencies, before moving to client-side and freelance SEO development, I never saw myself moving back into an agency role. But, after speaking with Spike directors, Rob Powell and Duncan Colman, it was easy to see that coming back agency-side with Spike was a good move.

“Their genuine drive to deliver the best results for clients, through a collaborative approach, is what drew me to the agency, and now I also understand why workplace culture is also so important in a new role. The team has been refreshingly straightforward, cutting out all the empty promises that usually come with agency culture!”

Rosie Snooke has joined after graduating from Leeds University in her first full-time agency role. She will be working in the Outreach team as the agency's new Digital Marketing & Outreach Executive. This comes following Spike’s recent expansion of its Outreach offering, thanks to a period of strong growth and an increasing number of clients.

Sky-high inflation causes 2023 hangover, stifling tech advances for two thirds of wholesale companies

With UK recession concerns front of mind and inflation still tipping ten per cent1, a new study of UK business has found that two thirds of wholesale businesses (66 per cent)1 are now struggling to fund vital digitisation projects for their sales and marketing functions within previously set budgets. The results reflect how spiralling business costs across the board are impacting companies’ abilities to fully adopt digital sales advances, at a time when the shift to online purchasing is increasing exponentially, so stifling their business growth and keeping them behind tech-savvy competitors.

The research showed that 19 per cent of wholesale firms have not yet been able to adopt digitisation, with budget stated as one the main barriers these firms are facing when looking to adopt new technology, setting them off into 2023 behind their competitors.

CO2Sustain set to sparkle in North America in 2023

Leeds-based beverage additive manufacturer CO2Sustain is to launch into the North American market in 2023, leveraging its existing success with leading carbonated drinks manufacturers and bottlers in over 50 countries across four continents, including Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.

CO2Sustain recently achieved GRAS approval (Generally Regarded As Safe), providing a green light for entry into the US market.

The company’s patented technology is a tasteless, preservative-free liquid additive which offers multiple benefits for consumers, manufacturers, and bottlers alike:

causes less foaming on pouring and keeps drinks fizzier for longer, thereby enhancing the consumer experience – this is of particular interest in warmer climates (where CO2 loss is even harder to control, yet where PET-bottled drinks are in the highest demand)
adds around 4 weeks to the shelf life of carbonated drinks in PET bottles
allows manufacturers to use 12.5% less CO2 with no noticeable impact – crucial at a time of CO2 shortages
allows manufacturers to use lighter-weight PET with no additional CO2 leaching
cuts energy costs in production, transport and refrigeration
boosts production efficiency thanks to improved filling, increased yields, and fewer rejects
offers a wide range of environmental benefits.

“BANKS RENEWABLES APPLYING FOR LIFESPAN EXTENSIONS FOR FOUR YORKSHIRE WIND FARMS

Independent renewable energy firm Banks Renewables is applying for extensions to the permitted lifespan for its four onshore wind farms in Yorkshire.

The Hook Moor Wind Farm to the east of Leeds, the Penny Hill scheme near Sheffield, the Marr Wind Farm to the west of Doncaster and the Hazlehead Wind Farm near Barnsley have all been generating clean green electricity for between seven and 11 years, and were each originally given planning permission to operate for 25 years.

But having carried out comprehensive regular maintenance work on the turbines at each site and reviewed their efficient ongoing operational performance, the family firm has now decided to look for permission to extend the lifespan of each of the wind farms by 15 years, to 40 years’ duration.

Planning applications for the lifespan extensions have been submitted to the relevant local authority in each area, with a view to them being considered in the coming months.

No other aspects of the wind farms would change as part of the planning applications, no new turbines are being planned and all the existing planning conditions under which they currently operate, including those which protect the residential amenity of local residents, would remain unaltered.”

Kada Research strengthens client offering with promotions and latest hire

Sheffield economic consultancy welcomes Lewis Pontremoli to its growing team and promotes four existing staff

Kada Research, a UK and International economic development consultancy that provides social and economic research, analysis and advice to the public, private and non-profit sectors, has further strengthened its client offering with another new appointment, and the promotion of four existing members of staff.

The move sees Lewis Pontremoli join the Sheffield firm as a Research Consultant after completing his MSc degree in Environmental Change and International Development at the University of Sheffield, having previously graduated from Sheffield Hallam in 2021 with first-class honours in International Business.

Kada founder Karl Dalgleish says his appointment comes in response to rising demand for social and economic research, impact assessments and strategy development work. There is also growing interest in low carbon solutions so Lewis’s experience of climate and environmental change will be useful.
