This brand-new Indian afternoon tea in Beverley is a totally unique must-try 😍

Tête-À-Tête in Beverley has just launched its Indian afternoon tea, pairing the classic British afternoon tea setup with a menu inspired by Indian flavours. Instead of starting with jam & cream scones or Earl Grey, guests are served bite-sized Indian staples and masala chai, a delicious Indian milk tea.

The savoury tiers are packed out with a mix of both familiar and lesser-seen Indian dishes, starting with pani puri - crispy shells filled with stuffing and spices, with spiced water to pour inside - starting the meal with a literal explosion of flavour!

There are neatly made finger sandwiches with fillings like spiced scrambled egg, cottage cheese with cucumber, mint chutney and onion chutney, plus crisp onion bhajis served with tomato chutney. There are samosas with sweet chutney, chicken tikka bites with a gently spiced cream sauce, and mini puris served with a really tasty dry potato curry.

To polish off, the sweet tier includes gulab jamun cheesecake, mango kheer tarts, and creamy pistachio turnovers. It’s ideal for a date, or a cosy hangout with a friend!

This long-standing Indian restaurant in West Hull has quietly built a loyal following over the years - and after seeing the food come out of the kitchen, it’s easy to understand why 😍

We visited Tandoor Mahal to capture what makes it such a trusted local favourite. The menu covers all the classic British-Indian curries people know and love, from kormas, baltis and biryanis, but there are also some standout dishes that really shine.

Starters set the tone nicely. Alongside crisp onion bhajis, there’s a mixed kebab platter with sheek kebab, chicken, beef and a bhaji — ideal if you can’t decide. The standout dish, though, was the chicken stuffed pepper — a green pepper cooked in the tandoori oven, filled with chicken chat bhuna and topped with melted cheese.

For mains, the tandoori chicken on the bone, served in a rich minced meat sauce with rice, was our favourite. We also tried a very hot South Indian curry — packed with flavour, but definitely one for serious spice lovers.

It’s easy to see why Tandoor Mahal remains such a popular Indian restaurant in West Hull.

The restaurant itself is spacious, clean and welcoming, with plenty of regulars clearly enjoying their usual orders. They also regularly run a £15.95 three-course offer, available every day over Christmas, and continuing Sunday to Thursday after January — great value for the quality on offer.

So if you’re looking for a really tasty, good value Indian in west Hull, you must give Tandoor Mahal a try!

Beneath Hull’s Paragon Station lie two hidden Victorian prison cells, once used to lock up criminals, troublemakers, and drunken passengers until the authorities dealt with them.

Back in the 19th century, railway stations were chaotic places, and Hull was no exception. These cells helped keep order, giving the police somewhere to hold those causing trouble. They’re still there today, hidden beneath the busy platforms.

Most people passing through have no idea they’re walking over a piece of history. While they’re no longer in use, they’re a reminder of a time when train travel had its own on-site justice. Reckon they should bring them back for people who push onto the train before you’ve got off? 😆
