Our Editor-in-Chief, Faye Waterford, had the privilege of attending Potter Clarkson’s IP Summer School at the University of Nottingham. The event provided a comprehensive overview of intellectual property (IP) and its practical applications. Throughout the two-day program, attendees delved into a case study, engaged in thought-provoking discussions, and learned from the experienced legal professionals at Potter Clarkson.

The first day focused on understanding the fundamentals of IP, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and registered designs. Attendees were divided into teams and tasked with developing a two-year plan for protecting IP in a given case study, considering costs, benefits, and risks. The day concluded with a networking dinner, providing an opportunity to exchange insights and build connections with fellow professionals.

On the second day, we explored different IP enforcement and exploitation strategies through interactive group activities and case scenarios. The program concluded with a deeper understanding of protecting and applying IP, and the commercial benefits it brings.
