Where is Harley Davidson’s 400cc offering.

Ensuring older bikes can be kept on the road.

ECU issues are one of the most expensive issues that can crop up, and repairs/replacements can run into the £1,000s.

But there is a cost effective solution- recommended by Gary from Australia.

Instead of risking a $3,000 AUD bill for a new ECU for his 2013 BLS R1200RT, Gary purchased a def ECU for $75, and then gave both his current ECU and newly purchased ECU to an electronics specialist. For $250, the ECU specialist then cloned Gary’s good ECU data onto his used ECU, so for $325 (£167 GBP), Gary now has a back up ECU👌🏻👌🏻

When things are out of one’s control…

Returning home from dinner, Roger found his 2023 Triumph Bonneville T120 laying in the floor.

Luckily, Roger’s neighbours caught the registration number of the driver who knocked over the Bonneville, but it was still classed as a write off from the insurance company.

Roger wasted little time, and managed to find a 2022 T120 Black to replace his written off bike, and he’s back on two wheels🤘🏼

It’s great to be back after a two week break!
In today’s episode, I look at your recommendations for simple, tough mid-sized motorbikes.

Lyn has a Yamaha MT07 and a Honda Rebel 500, and it’s the Honda that’s her preferred machine for road trip, happily doing 300+ miles a day.

Just throw over the soft panniers, clip on the top box and ready for adventure🤘🏼

I hope you enjoy the episode!

I’m so sorry everyone for missing this week’s episode. I’ve just got back from Ireland and didn’t manage to film an episode.

Normal service will continue from next week:)

In the meantime, here’s Bernie’s Honda CB500X. After owning big Harley’s and Triumphs, this far smaller 500cc work horse is what re-ignited Bertie’s passion for hiking again.

John’s recent trip from the UK, to Spain, through the Pyrenees, Andorra, and back up north through picturesque French villages.

So, with his newly purchased Honda Transalp, he hit the road, turned “off” motorways on his sat nav, and hit the road🤘🏼

And Bas’s road trip on his 2007 Yamaha FZ6, from the Netherlands, through Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, and the Italian Dolomites🏔️

And Paul and his friend’s ten day trip from Cornwall to the Alps, on two BMW R100RSs.

Seven countries, 2,500 miles, and some of the highest passes in the Alps… on two 1980s BMWs that were both faultless🇩🇪💪🏼

5,000 miles, 15 countries and 21 days on a Royal Enfield Scram 411.

Jamie did the trip from the east coast of England, across on the ferry to the Netherlands, and rode through France, Switzerland, Italy, Serbia, Bosnia and many more.

To add to that, he had motorways and toll roads tuned off on his sat nav, so just unspoilt scenery all the way! The second pic is a motorcycle museum in Czech🏍️🏍️🏍️

Over in Australia, Shirley and her husband, Rob have built up a very quirky selection of bikes that they take on rallies around Queensland.

It’s great to see scooter rallies being so popular, and the red postie bike (my personal favourite🖤) is an award winner🏆

Also in Shirley and Rob’s collection: a Peugeot Django 150, Kawasaki Vulcan 650 and a Kymco Downtown

A straight out of the box v-twin chopper from Honda is the bike of the week🇯🇵

I look into residual values of Chinese bikes, parts issues for Aprilias and a BMW tourer that consistently covers huge mileages.

The Ducati 750GT is at the valuable end of the classic motorcycle spectrum, with prices ranging from £18-30,000.

Manufactured between 1971-74, only 4,133 were ever produced- making this both highly desirable and tricky to find.

Interestingly in 1978, 40 additional 750GTs were built from spare parts at Ducati’s factory- as requested by an Australian importer.

This is Derek’s 1972 750GT, over in Australia🇦🇺🏍️

Lucas’s father in law purchased one of the biggest 125cc bikes available, to enjoy long distance travel without the need to take a full bike test.

The bike: the Honda Varadero 125.

15hp, 159kg, v-twin engine and the legendary Honda reliability, wrapped up in a package that looks so much like a big bike, it’s difficult to tell the difference from a visual point of view.

In order to not leave his father in law behind on one of his two bikes (a Transalp and Dominator), Lucas also bought himself a Varadero 125 to join him for road trips around France 🤘🏼🤘🏼

I take a look at your choices for sub £2,000 motorbikes to comfortably tour on.

Natalie’s choice is the Mk1 Yamaha Fazer 600- pictured here on a trip to Scotland.

There’s a brilliant selection, from a Ducati, BMWs, Triumphs, Hondas and Yamahas👌🏻

The Moto Guzzi Eldorado 1400 is a rare sight, but well regarded, and very good looking cruiser. Never a big seller, but this is a bike that holds its value extremely well.

From a Dragstar, to Kawasakis, a Triumph Speedmaster, Honda CB650z, and a bike that unless you’re Swedish, you almost certainly will never have come across: the Honda CBX600e.

Produced for just two years (‘83-‘84), and only for the Swedish market, the CBX600e has 65hp, is shaft drive, and only 1,000 were ever made.

This is Peter’s selection of bikes through the years, over in Sweden🇸🇪

Have a brilliant weekend, all!
