*SEVEN PEOPLE KILLED IN A HORRIFIC CAR CRASH ON THE N1 SOUTH.*

Seven people were killed in a head-on collision between a VW kombi and a Hundai Sedan on the N1 South next to Oorlogfontein outside Mokopane. It is suspected that one of the drivers lost control of the vehicle and drove into on-coming traffic. Six were in the Sedan and the Kombi driver was alone in the vehicle.

This brings to 15 the number of people who were killed on the provincial roads since Friday. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and reduce speed. MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has sent messages of condolences to the families of the deceased.

Arona urges communities to take control of municipalities for better service delivery

A newly formed civic movement, Arona, which is contesting 10 of the 45 wards in Rustenburg in the North West says it’s time for communities to take full control of their municipalities, so they can accelerate the delivery of services.

The organisation is also eyeing PR seats in the Moses Kotane, Madibeng and Kgetleng River Local Municipalities, which form part of Bojanala District.

It held its campaign in Tsitsing outside Rustenburg.

Coordinator of the movement Olga Chauke says the bigger political parties have failed residents dismally.

“We have decided that it is important and imperative that we have local representation and an organization that is local, that would deal with local issues. For example, we are saying, we do not want to see our councillors reporting in an organization in Gauteng or in Tshwane, wherever. So, that is why Arona was established,” says Chauke.

It’s time for communities to take full control of their municipalities, so they can accelerate the delivery of services. This is according to the newly-formed Civic Movement, ARONA, which is contesting 10 of the 45 wards in Rustenburg in the North West.

Forum 4 Service Delivery to host election rally in North West

The Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) will be hosting an election rally on Sunday at Lekubu sports ground in the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality in Zeerust in the North West.

The party which was founded in the North West in 2015 and contested the 2016 elections, will be contesting the November municipal elections in 52 wards across seven provinces, excluding the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.

F4SD was formed on the principles of tackling grassroots issues such as water, sanitation and electricity.

Its president Mbahare Kekana says “The reason for this rally is to consolidate our work on the ground and also to welcome more than 400 members of the ANC. Among them, there are councillors, speakers and the chief whip.”

The party will also unveil the mayoral candidate for the Ramotshere Moiloa Municipality.

We continue to come to you with solutions. Vote for Forum 4 service delivery so that we can implement the solutions we have for your municipalities. We are visible and present. Let us work together to end poverty and corruption. pic.twitter.com/z83jH5YZPT

Residents in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, share their service delivery frustrations with Ramaphosa

Some residents in Maniini and Lufule 2 outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo have told African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa about their frustration over the lack of clean drinking water and load shedding.

The ANC leader has been campaigning for the party in the area ahead of the November first local government elections. The provision of basic services, like water and the performance of municipalities, has been a major theme in campaigning ahead of the elections.

Hundreds of party faithful gathered at Lufule primary school at Ha-Tshisele to welcome Ramaphosa. He started by conducting a door-to-door campaign at the village.

Residents were happy to see him visiting their homes. They told him that water shortage and electricity load shedding are their main problems.

“I am so happy that the President visited my family, I am in support of the ANC. There is no consistent water supply, I am happy that I manage to get the contacts for those people who will help me to continue with my studies,” says a resident.

Ramaphosa also visited resident Vhakoma Vho-Mukoma Tshisele. He assured Ramaphosa that he will still vote for the ANC, despite poor road conditions and lack of water.

“It’s our long time organisation, we cannot afford to abandon it. Even when things are tough but we support it because we were trained to hold on even when things are not going accordingly.”

Ramaphosa introduced the ANC’s ward 17 candidate and expressed appreciation that people nominated him to stand.

“Even you young people, go back and remind your parents who are not here that the 1st of November is a voting day. Are you going to tell your parents? You elderly ones, you already know that on the first we should all come out in large numbers to go and vote for the ANC. ANC must come back and rule.”

Infighting affects service delivery

Ramaphosa also says political and leadership squabbles within the ruling party are negatively impacting service delivery in municipalities.

Ramaphosa’s door-to-door campaign:

Ramaphosa was speaking during his campaign trail in Vhembe in Limpopo. He visited three wards under the Thulamela Local Municipality where he introduced his party’s candidates to potential voters.

ANC provincial chairperson, Stanley Mathabatha and ANC NEC member, Thoko Didiza accompanied Ramaphosa during the campaign.

They also met with traditional leaders and representatives of faith-based organisations.

Ramaphosa will conclude his two-day campaign in Limpopo by canvassing for votes in Seshego in Polokwane on Sunday.
