Red on blue.
Taking a look back at the Venice Mask Festival from a few years back now. It was so exciting getting up at the crack of dawn to photograph the performers in their costumes. Photographing in the low light made for some striking colours, such as this one taken as the sky was transitioning from night to day.

Holywell Bay

This image celebrates the famous twin islands of Gull Rocks at Holywell Bay in North Cornwall. A sweeping stretch of golden sand backed by towering cliffs and grass-tufted dunes, Holywell Bay beach is the kind of place that radiates natural beauty. That said, the eye can’t help but be drawn to the towering Gull Rocks soaring from the sea. Both otherworldly and familiar, they are a real focal point that provide the perfect backdrop for coastal walks and inspiration for creativity.

Praa Sands Sunrise
Praa Sands has always been one of my favourite places to go and photograph the sunrise in the winter months. With a more southerly sunrise, the south coast can provide a very different drama to the summer mornings.

Battling through the harsher elements of winter, I found myself at Praa Sands waiting patiently for the sun to rise, not only did it have to come over the horzion, butit also had to climb over the headland of Rinsey at the far end of the beach. The winter sun has a much harsher glow and so the window to photograph it is small, using the headland to mask it’s power slightly, the sun still bursts over the land creating this dramatic landscape photograph.

Vinales Valley Sunset Sky
The large countryside area known as Vinales Valley in Cuba is a captivating beauty spot in this fascinating country and a location I was looking forward to photographing. During my stay in Cuba, the sky had mostly remained clear, with beaming sunshine that made me stick to the cooler shadows.

On this night, I was grateful for the cloud cover as the uninterrupted view I had of Vinales Valley had a colourful glow from the dramatic sky above. With blues, pinks and golds, the backdrop of this fine art photograph is as almost unique as the landscape itself. With the array of birds flying around in the sky, it was a truly magical evening that comes across so perfectly in Vinales Valley Sunset Sky.

Sunset in Tŵr Mawr Lighthouse 📍

Tŵr Mawr Lighthouse is one of the most iconic coastal landmarks in Anglesey, Wales, located on the small tidal island of Llanddwyn.

I wanted to add the lighthouse to my Wales Landscape Photography gallery and this involved careful planning to get the right weather conditions and timing. For a sunset shoot I needed to make a 40-minute walk across the coastline to arrive at the moment the sun would be hitting the west-facing side of the lighthouse and rocky outcrop.

I used a wide-angle lens for this piece in order to capture the drifting cloud formations that were cast towards the lighthouse. At this sunset hour the light has a comforting orange glow which is enhanced by the pink flora scattered among the rocks. As the rocky coastal path stretches out towards the sky, LLanddwyn Lighthouse sits beautifully at the centre of its own universe.

At this point I am probably the only Cornish photographer not to have photographs of the Northern Lights! I missed the show yet again a couple of nights ago, so last night I decided I should at least get some astro photography this month. I had been thinking about the Prussia Cove photograph for a while so decided to head to the south coast to tick this one off my list. It did not take me as long as I expected to get something I was happy with, so then decided to head to Gunwalloe to get the other two photos! Which is your favourite?

Lake District Rainbow 🌈

My trip to the Lake District took place during the autumn at the peak turning of the leaves. The weather was as changeable as the season, with cloudy skies and bursts of rain and sunshine creating fleeting and unique photo opportunities.

Standing south of the village of Little Langdale, I was struck by how golden the landscape appeared underneath the autumn sun. It was a day full of intermittent showers and I was lucky that in a brief interlude of rain, a rainbow appeared directly over the village. Using a wide-angle lens, I was able to capture the full end-to-end arc of the rainbow, set over the rough texture of the landscape tinged with gold and rusty orange.

Kynance Cove at sunset.

This is a sunset shot of Kynance Cove I shot almost two years ago. Got lucky with the sun bursting through the clouds as it lowered. I used an ND filter to create the smooth silk effect of the sea. The weather has been so inconsistent recently I thought I would look back through my sunnier photographs!

Everytime it snows in Cornwall I always seem to be booked in for a photography shoot! New York 📍
I was keen to visit the Empire State Building at night to see the sprawling city of New York illuminated with artificial lights. Being in summer, I left my ascent to the top of the building as late as I could to witness the city in total darkness. It was a breathtaking sight to see the orange lines of the streets with millions illuminated windows scattered below.

I photographed the view from every side of the Empire State Building, this view being of my favourites as the lines from the street below guide the viewers eye up the centre of the image perfectly.

Aira Force Waterfall

Of all the waterfalls located throughout the region of the Lake District, Aira Force is perhaps the most impressive. The 20 foot drop has water cascading down rock moss covered rocks with a quaint, brickwork bridge that runs across the top. A small walkway and platform from the bottom allows visitors to watch the descent of the river and into the next level beneath.

It was here that I would take this photograph; Aira Force Waterfall. I placed the camera on the tripod allowed me to slow the shutter speed down just enough to smooth out the flow of the water.
