New Zealand’s prime minister was forced to take a commercial flight to Japan after his air force plane broke down while refuelling in Papua New Guinea, his office said Monday.
A problem with a command module for a small flap on the wing meant the aircraft could not fly as high or as fast as normal, affecting its range, a defence spokesperson said.
It was detected while the plane was on the ground in Papua New Guinea.
A delegation of business leaders and journalists accompanying Luxon had to wait until Monday to fly on the air force 757 to Brisbane and then catch a commercial flight to Tokyo, the spokesperson said.
Luxon who is expected to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during his four-day visit.
The new Senegalese government has unveiled measures to reduce the price of rice, oil, bread, and other basic items to address cost-of-living concerns amid high unemployment and inflation.
The country’s budget Minister Cheikh Diba confirmed the development.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who won the March election, vowed during the campaign to address high living costs in the West African nation that heavily relies on imports.
Under the new measures, the price of a kilo (2.2 pounds) of the most widely consumed type of rice will be reduced by 40 CFA ($0.065, 0.061 euros), while a baguette will cost 15 CFA (0.023 euros) less, the government announced at a media conference, Agence France-Presse reports.
The reductions, which also cover cement and fertiliser, will take effect in the next few days, government Secretary General Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo told reporters.
Spending on food accounts for half a Senegalese household’s budget, Lo said, adding checks would be stepped up to ensure traders respect the new prices.
Budget Minister Cheikh Diba said the government would forego taxes and customs duties imposed on importers to subsidise the price cuts.
The measures will cost 53.3 billion CFA (more than 81 million euros, $87 million), Diba said.
This comes after Senegal joined the club of oil-producing countries this week as Australian group Woodside Energy announced that production had started in the country’s first offshore project.
Faye vowed that profits from the country’s gas and oil resources would be “well managed.”

Donald Trump has become the first former US president to be convicted on criminal charges.
The real estate mogul, former US commander-in-chief and Republican party 2024 presidential nominee was found guilty on all counts on Thursday, May 30, by a jury of 12 citizens of Manhattan, New York in the unprecedented criminal prosecution of an ex-president.
The jury found that Trump, 77, falsified business records throughout 2017 by lying that he was paying his then-lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen for phoney “legal services” when he was actually reimbursing him for the hush money that kept Daniels from speaking out about having s*x with Trump inside a Lake Tahoe hotel room in 2006.
When asked to read the verdict on count one of the indictment, the foreman calmly stood up and said, “Guilty.”
He then repeated the word “guilty” 33 more times when asked to read the jury’s verdict on the other counts.
As the verdict was read, Trump slouched in his seat, shoulders forward. He titled his head, looking at each juror while his fate was read out.
The verdict capped a dramatic seven-week trial in Manhattan Supreme Court in which the jurors, including people who both praised and criticized the polarizing politician, heard X-***ed testimony from Daniels herself.
Cohen, a convicted perjurer who testified that he lied under oath in the past to “protect” Trump was Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s star witness against his former boss.
Trump’s lawyers capitalized on Cohen’s history of lies and revealed that he’d once stolen $60,000 from the ex-president’s business, as they tried to paint him as a serial liar and fabricator hellbent on seeing his former boss behind bars

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos today 12th April,2024vhas sentenced cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, to six months in jail with no option of fine.
EFCC arraigned Bobrisky on the 5th of April ,2024 in court on a six-count charge bothering from Abuse of the Naira and Money laundering.
The court, however, dismissed the money laundering charges citing that there was no ground to indict him for money laundering charges, rather convicted him for Naira Abuse after he confessed to the crime. The court also ordered that he be remanded in EFCC detention in Lagos
The final judgment was initially set for April 9th and 10th However, the court couldn't sit due to the Eid-Fitri public holiday.
Bobrisky, who will now be taken to jail to complete his six months sentence.

Universal Credit: Gang guilty of large £53.9m benefit fraud.
Five members of an organised gang have been convicted of what has been described by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as the largest case of benefit fraud in England and Wales.
The gang of three women and two men - all Bulgarian - made thousands of fraudulent claims for Universal Credit over a four and a half year period.
They each admitted to stealing more than £50m at London's Wood Green Crown Court.
According to the CPS, the gang - Gyunesh Ali, 33, Galina Nikolova, 38, Stoyan Stoyanov, 27, Tsvetka Todorova, 52, and Patritsia Paneva, 26 - made thousands of false claims for Universal Credit using either real people or hijacked identities.
All five pleaded guilty to fraud.
They also admitted money laundering offences.
