So I recently realised that I've been running my book club for three years!!

Three years?!?? How the heck did that happen?

It has been a rollercoaster, and whilst we're on a break from book clubbing (and reading the longest book since Harry Potter!!) I thought I would share some of my journey with you all.

Link is in the first comment... ☺️

FUN FACT: This will probably shock my book club members because I am notoriously slow at reading, and often finish books either last minute or not at all...but The Bee Sting has over 600 pages and I have it planned out how many pages I need to read each day to - realistically - finish it in plenty of time. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was 150 pages LONGER and I read that in a DAY because I desperately wanted to avoid spoilers!!

There's a lot going on at the moment.

It's hard to know how to talk about it.

A lot of people are understandably scared but together as a community we can stand up to the racism, the hate, and bigotry borne with fear.

If you agree with the "protests" going on, this is not the space for you.

If you agree that the "immigrants are stealing our jobs", this is also not the space for you.

As Grimbarians we stand together.

Sad to say that today was our last book club at but it was so lovely to end this chapter on a high with lots of old and new faces coming along to talk about Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.

Huge thanks to Richard and team for giving us a home.

Moving forward, the book club will be taking a mini hiatus for the summer but don't worry because we will be returning in October, at a new venue (to be decided).

In the meantime, we will be reading The Bee Sting by Paul Murray...chosen because it's a bit long and we figured we'd need the two months 😂

Well hey there! It has been a while since I've popped up on your feed, hasn't it?

I'd been thinking about changing the website for a long time, and I finally did it!

The biggest change, which some of you already know about, is that I made the decision to drop the small business directory.

It was great during lockdown, and I know a lot of you found it useful for connecting with either customers or small businesses. However, things have changed and it wasn't serving its purpose, so it was time to move on.

Moving forward, the focus will be on the blog which will feature small businesses and of course all the little things that make Grimsby and Cleethorpes a great place to live.

As always, the shop is still there and the book club continues to have its own page.

So, please go check it out; any feedback gratefully received 🫶

Not gonna lie, I'm really looking forward to the next book that we're reading 💛

We are reading Anxious People by Fredrik Backman.

Our next meeting will be at on Sunday 4th August at 1pm.

As always, everyone is welcome to come alone. We have a few people who read along, but don't always come to meetings and that's fine too. As long as we get people reading things out of their comfort zone, our mission has been accomplished ☺️

Message to be added to our WhatsApp Chat.

I'm trying to persaude Chris that we need to visit because I haven't been since I was about 12, and he has NEVER BEEN 😱😱😱

What can I tell him that will encourage him to want to go?

I don't think telling him that he can be The Ship's Cat is going to be quite enough 😅

I’ve been asked a few times how we choose books. Normally, we nominate books and then vote as a democracy; book with the most votes wins for that month.

Once a year, however, I choose a book from the previous years Booker Prize, and that’s what we read.

Past books have been: Klara and The Sun; and Nightcrawling.

This year I have chosen If I Survive You by Jonathan Escoffery.

As always we meet at with our next meeting being Sunday 2nd June at 1pm - 2pm.

Everyone is welcome, and if you’d like to join our WhatsApp group, send me a DM 🫶

So I don’t seem to be able to get these in stock quick enough before I need to order more 😅

Fresh batch arrived whilst I was on holiday, and heading to on Friday.

I love how these coasters have become the staple of MIG&C. They sell out so quickly every time and I love knowing so many people have these bright and cheerful homages to our amazing town in your homes 💛

Today I wanted to shine a light on a local maker who I definitely don’t think gets enough recognition locally, and everyone needs to know about them and their incredible work.

is a mascot suit maker; ideal for cosplay and having had the great honour of seeing Laura’s work in person, the quality of these costumes is like nothing I’ve ever seen.

They make these suits 100% from scratch, from the 3D model design, 3D printing (with a little toothy help from ), and stitching to pull these insanely brilliant costumes together.

If you’re interested in cosplay, supporting a creative business or just an awesome person, please give Laura a follow 💛💛

I make no secret that I love steam trains. I grew up spending a lot of time on the and still visit every September, as my brothers ashes are scattered there.

So seeing photos of steam trains in Town Station is always pretty exciting to me.

I’ve spent a lot of time - as have many of us - catching trains from Town Station and it baffles my brain to even begin to imagine these huge beasts steaming - literally - into and through Grimsby.

I’m not generally a person who thinks I was born in the wrong time period, however I do wish I could spend just a little bit of time in the age of steam when sights like this were the daily norm.

Steam trains are so much more interesting than the TPE…I bet they actually ran, for a start 🙄

Today I wanted to make sure everyone knows about

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen and heard someone pick up any item by a small business and say “I could do that…”

What really irks me about comments like that, is that it really berates the talent and high quality products that these people make and Berwick is a prime example of that.

When you pick up one of her pieces, you can feel the sheer quality that is 100% big competition for the big store brands, if not better!

If you’re not familiar with Berwick’s work, please take a moment to scroll through the images of her window display, follow her on social media, pop and see her amazing products at and maybe buy a few things 💛

I’ve shared this collection of postcards in the past, I know.

But I am always fascinated by how Grimsby and Cleethorpes used to look before I existed. It’s a Grimsby I don’t know, or recognise but I know that my family walked those streets and experienced them in a way I never will.

I don’t want this to be a post slamming the council for whatever reason, what’s done is done and I don’t believe in dwelling on things that can no longer be changed.

Instead, let’s appreciate and celebrate our rich history.

Who remembers when looked like this?

It was less than a year ago that worked their magic but feels like forever ago.

I’m a big believer that - within reason - change can be a great thing, and this vibrant mural on the side of a very iconic business/building is a great change 💛

I may have stolen the second photo from Creative Start because apparently I don’t have any decent photos of the current mural 🤦‍♀️

Original mural photo taken by me, following a tour my mum and I did back in 2021.

Happy Mothers Day to the woman who gave me my sense of adventure.

The woman who taught me that you are never lost, you are “taking the scenic route”.

And to the woman who for the past month and a half has been doing as she’s told for the first time in her life 😂 Hopefully you’ll be back on your feet this week 🙌

Photo taken in May 2008 (ignore the date on the photo, I never knew how to change the settings on that camera 😬), when we embarked on our biggest adventure to Canada 💛💛 fyi…she was doing her favourite thing…people watching 😅

Every time you spend money with a small local business - whether that is a gift, flowers, food etc - you're not just supporting that individual business, you are doing so much more to benefit the local community.

This might sound silly, but when we shop online or travel out of town to shop, it means less money is staying in Grimsby and Cleethorpes to:

- Pay staff wages
- Invest back into our local economy
- Invest into the future of families and entrepreneurs
- Bring communities closer together

Shopping local also helps to protect the environment, because you're using less fuel to travel.
