Today I want to bust a myth about how to post on social media in order to truly stand out.......
Most bars, restaurants and cafe's here in Cumbria tend to post on their Social Media channels just a few times each week. I see them posting a pretty picture of the food they are serving and then they might talk about a new dish they have on their menu......or something else that will equally send their audience quite frankly instantly to SLEEP.
Sure the post "looks good" on the feed but we have to ask ourselves what is that post actually DOING for your business? Is it inspiring? Memorable? Does it get people talking and having a conversation with you?
In my opinion yes a post like this is better than no post at all but if you look at your post insights, you would probably have hardly any views or reach on a post like this - because it blends in with everyone else's posts. It's what we call here at Stand Out SocialMedia Cumbria - SOSCumbria a "VANILLA ICE CREAM POST" - yes it goes with anything but it is bland and unmemorable.
We want to create the Caramel Cherry Choo Choo ice cream posts if you want to use your social media to get your restaurant fully booked out.
There are tonnes and tonnes of different ways to create a stand out post for a restaurant, bar or a cafe but one of the best ways to get more reach and views on a post is to get more engagement and comments on it.
So what better way to do this than to inspire a conversation and a discussion every single time so let me give you an example of how I might post for a client of ours using this photo in a way that inspires conversation and discussion but that also leaves your audience really FEELING like they want to taste your delicious food aswell!
So I might say something like this........
_____________
Well folks today we were almost late opening the restaurant doors because we we having a heated debate in the kitchen all about our brand new Fillet Steak dish that we have on our menu starting from today new for this season!
So Johnny our Head Chef started the discussion off by saying how he always leaves the best part of his food last and so he would eat his steak after he has eaten everything else on his plate including our delicious walnut and Balsamic Green beans, the fries, the onion rings, mash, salad EVERYTHING!
Does anyone else think this is crazy? That he would let his steak go cold and eat it right at the end of the meal when he is getting full!!
Most of the rest of us were shocked but Johnny insisted that he wants to save the best till last!
The rest of us would dive straight into the steak soon as it hits the table.
A few of us prefer to eat it all together all at the same pace...
....and then when the debate hit the bar team......wow all three of them agreed with our Head Chef saying they always save the best till last too!
My mind is now blown so I'd love to know what all of our lovely customers would do with their steak too?
Would you save it till last?
Eat it first before anything else?
Or do you prefer to blend and pace your steak throughout your meal?
Fascinating stuff - luckily we just managed to open the doors on time!
And for those of you who are already salivating over our new dish, we have a cancellation actually this evening at 8pm if anyone wants to snap it up simply give us a call on 0771234567.
Catch you later folks!

I hope that you can see the difference here..............we have turned a boring post into something interesting that people can have a conversation about, we've made it fun and sociable which works really well on Social Media, we are building relationships - we mentioned how Johnny the Head Chef eats his steak, we are standing out from the vanilla ice cream out there and we are adding what's called a "call to action" inviting another booking or two or three or four to come in!
Even if booking are full and a few phone calls come in, the restaurant manager can invite people to come the following day or the day after that.
If you repeat this pattern of creating conversations and building relationships and adding a call to action day after day after day, you will build up your customer client base and you will get fully booked very quickly!
I hope that you can see how simply tweaking the way you post can build your business and get your tonnes and tonnes more customers.
