I played the langlands ruder cup against the Westwood today (I won my doubles match - singles tomorrow).

I saw these balls sitting in the cupboard and thought why not?

The grey ball is 3 piece urethane cover ball that's build for distance while also maintaining a decent spin rate. 312bdimple pattern and up compression helps the ball launch but also incredibly stable in the air.

I used the one ball for the full round and it developed a strange red stain around the ball. The camera does exaggerate it slightly, but it is there.

Apart from that I was so impressed with the ball. My distance off the tee on all clubs was exactly where I would want it (maybe even more with the long iron) and the driver was some of the best drives I have hit in a while.

I have always felt that my current ball (prov1) spins a little too much for me and this results in a exaggerated side spin on a slice and hook. Today I did cut a couple of drives and the ball did miss the fairway, as expected BUT I wasn't a mile offline and felt it was a fair and justified result.

Bringing the ball on to the green for 120y and in was always a bit tricky for me. I usually had to hit it harder to get boyond the pin because of the prov1 high spin rate, but this cut ball was thrown at the pin with a jump and a stop dead. It's all I need.

One area I have also felt that discount, independent brands fall short is the ability to fight the wind. The Kirkland ball is a great example of a well priced, well constructed ball that struggles to get through the wind without being thrown about like newlywed couple. The stability of the cut ball was clear. Even in a cold, Scottish headwind. The ball done exactly what I asked with no major shocks.

off the face around the green was a replica of the pro v. Nothing between them. Soft and heavy feeling. In control and dominant. Full of confidence. I picked my landing spot and hit the shot. Loved it.

A pack of 12 comes in at just under £25 (amazon) but I'm sure you can get better value going direct to cut.

I am going to go and test more of their balls as this seriously impressed me.

Have you played these balls?

What should I test next?

Every time I play at a course i like to get a ball marker, or a pitch repair tool.

These have sat in a wee tote bag for years and I finally came up with an idea that I liked.

This is just some of my favourite ones and I coukd probably do another 3 frames.

I think it looks OK....

outing to (Bishopbriggs Golf course).

I came in second place (Surinder Singh came in first - last picture of the champs). I also won a nearest the pin.

Since coming back from Kelso with the club. I have spent every day building a plan for improvement and using the R10 simulator alongside the app. Breaking the swing down to tempo, contact and expectations has been a game changer.

I am slowly, but surely getting back to my previous distances and even better consistency.

I am in the process of editing a video that will introduce a new series called "the swing series" where I completely break down my swing and start golf as a "new golfer". Getting rid of old habits and introducing a better, more consistent swing.

Today's stats:
SCORE - 81 (+10)
FIR - 60%
GIR - 55.6%
PPH - 1.7

I am not letting my Injury hold me back.

I haven't played as much golf as I would have liked in the last couple of months. Part of that is due to not having the time and another reason is that I am unfortunately, slowly falling out of love with the game.

A big reason for this is how much effort it now seems to be to maintain a swing and remain consistent enough to complete a round to my own incredibly high standards.

I love being around golf and I love being around people who play golf (apart from proper grade A golf wan*ers).

I have always loved working on my swing, distance control and just general golf work BUT I think I do need to admit defeat on my chase for distance.

I have tried everything to get back to my old numbers and unfortunately I just can't do it. I don't think 35 is an age where I can blame it on that...but I will grasp at any excuse i can.

Understanding my limits and working with them In a positive way has completely changed my mindset in the last couple of weeks. I WANT to hit the ball as far as I used to and when I can't... I got sad. Now... I just accept it and play that club. There is something wholesome about that.

It's honest and organic.

I am also seeing a a disappointing trend within the golfing YouTube community. Every video by every other YouTuber seems to be a replica of someone else's video. They are becoming very similar. There seems to be a lose of honesty and integrity.

Full of ads, clickbait and just down right sh*t content.

Its kinda sad.

Going forward. I am going to speak with a coach and build a program over the winter. I want to reset my game and use this opportunity to get rid of the bad habits I have caught over the years and hopefully be a better golfer this time next year.

If anyone knows a good coach who will be willing to work with me over the next 6 months. Tag them or send me a dm.

I want to document this process. An unedited, raw, stripped back honest series where we go through the journey of becoming a better golfer.

"the swing series" starting Friday 1st of September at 5pm. Weekly diary style videos.

Let's bring back proper golf videos. No drones, no clickbait and no advertising.

Raw. Relatable and honest...

Ever made your own yardage book?

While I was waiting on my stone age Internet to process my new video (coming this afternoon BTW... 😉). I thought I would get the tablet and start tracing out the course I'm playing for the .

feels very similar to in the shapes and while the pen scrapes away the details of every part of the hole, I felt myself picking shots and feeling where the ball should go. It was a strange process.

I normally just trust a GPS app on my phone, but there is something to be said about pen to paper and mapping out your next adventure...

Bring on the weekend!

I really wasn't sure about getting this. I definitely don't think my golf is good enough to Warrent having my name on my bag. Is it my name, though?

Anyeays, I reached out to the amazing .co.uk to help design and stitch my logo and what a job. I love it!

What's your favourite time of the day to play?

For me it'seither early morning or just as the sun is going down.

I seem to slow down a little and take it in when the course is empty and it's just you, and your clubs.

As some of you know, I was fortunate enough to win a competition run by and . I was that excited to get my hands on them, me and took a road trip down south to meet James and play his course, .

When I first for the clubs, I could tell straight away that these were going to change my game.

Since having them since Wednesday, I have been able to completely change my game for the better and feel like I can improve consistently and trust the shot.

Basically, if it's a sh*t shot...its my fault.

Full review coming to youtube next week.

Enjoy your weekend people.❤️

What a day! (Thornhill Golf Club) did not disappoint.

From the stunning greens, to the breathtaking views and the overall immaculate condition of the course. This is one to Definitely get down and play.

We were there as part of a Langlands outing and all the staff were absolutely brilliant.

The dry weather meant that (like many of The courses the now) played very much like a quality links. Dropping the ball 30 yards short took a bit of getting used too and to add to the challenge, the rough was extremely challenging, but amazingly easy to find your ball.

I genuinely can't fault the place.

An 82 from me wasn't bad.

More pics to follow over the next couple of days

Forgot I had these wee bad boys in the cupboard. The golf ball is actually surprisingly good. It's. Definitely more of a distance ball, but I was able to get some spin (that's just skill though 😉)

Not sure if they even produce then anymore, but if you see them in your local lidl... Pick them up.

NEW VIDEO ALERT

This week's two minute tip Tuesday video looks at the 120y shot into a green.

This was a problem area with me. Working with different clubs and different shots has helped me hit more greens and lower scores.

Give it a watch. Give it a try.
