SEO is really important for your website and a lot of designers don't consider the impacts a design will have on your SEO. This often means that later on, when you want to start attracting more customers, you may even need drastic changes to your website to get it to work efficiently. 😫

When I do SEO audits, the biggest problem I find with my client's websites is that they are often built on Squarespace or Wix. These platforms are ok if you are building your website yourself but because the platforms are built to make it easy for you to do yourself, they also include huge amounts of third-party code, excess JS and HTML which makes your website slower and less Google-friendly.
Don't get me wrong, I have managed to get Squarespace websites into the top 10% of websites in the world for SEO but it takes major work and is not cheap to do.

I have only mentioned a few things in this post. I will do a video on the best ways to optimise your SEO and what I mean by each thing mentioned. Make sure you are following me to watch videos and content on SEO & websites.

This website was an honour to work on. My amazing boy Tj passed away the day after I started making it. He was the most incredible dog. I used to speak to him like a human and he always understood. My soul dog ❤️

Spandow house is a dog rescue centre but unlike many other shelters they keep the dogs there until they are adopted and if they never get adopted then they stay forever!
Since seeing the video of Marshall and Millions, I’ve felt so sad that there are so many misunderstood dogs that end up in the wrong place at the wrong time but knowing that there is a place that will take on dogs that are seemingly “dangerous” and unwanted and won’t give up on them means the world to me.

It’s wonderful to know that the dogs at Spandow house will be so loved just as my little boy was and that there is hope for sweet dogs like millions and marshall who could have just been sent to somewhere like Spandow house!

Loved creating this website for Bristol based Caricature artist and graphic designer, Tong.

Tong is a startup company but as a startup they had to keep costs down until they had more profit to reinvest in marketing.

We had a consultation to find out more about their offerings and business goals.

They needed a website so that they can have a place to direct customers to either book their services and buy products.

This applies to your website and social media. The majority of people absorb information visually and if you make these mistakes then information you are trying to tell your audience will be lost.

3 simple things can make a huge impact of the actions customers take on your website and socials:

1. Too many fonts

Keep your brand consistent across your website. You can have up to 3 different fonts for captions, buttons, headings and paragraphs. but any more and it becomes distracting and looks messy.

2. No white space

Having 50-100px padding around each section of your website makes it so much easier to read and digest. Make sure it’s not too cluttered.

3. Bad Alignment

You should always align your content to the left because this is the first section that catches the eye. If alignment is off it can make your website look unprofessional and audiences can be put off.

Google Analytics is a powerful tool used to track user journeys and make predictions to help you grow your business.

On July 1, 2023, Universal Analytics will no longer process data. Instead Google Analytics 4 (GA4) will be used.

GA4 is a flexible event-based model that allow you to see unified user journeys across your website and apps.
Cookies are a thing of the past! (Don't you just hate it when cookie pop-ups appear?) GA4 no longer relies exclusively on cookies so you can learn about customers even with data gaps.

Ever noticed how you start talking about something and then you start seeing ads for it?.... That is what you could be doing by setting up all the right tools.

If you don't know what you are doing, Google Ads can be costly with little results. Knowing the basics especially the key terms is a good place to start.

Love working on these type of projects. The clients brief was very... brief! They wanted a showroom style website for bathrooms and wet rooms but weren’t sure about branding or style and they hadn’t seen any similar websites that were what they were looking for.

This is the most fun for us because we can let our creativity out.

We used dark blues and golds to bring a professional and high end feel to the website.
The fonts used also compliment each other to combine a professional feel with a more personalised signature look.

We also added in custom shading, shape dividers and images to make it look even more professional.

We updated this website for one of our wonderful clients.
She had previously used another web design agency but the website was built from a template and was not functioning well.

SEO Tools you don’t want to miss out on... don’t forget to save this for later!

SEO is search engine optimisation which basically means your business will appear in more searches.... so more inbound customers for you!

There are so many factors to great SEO like content, technical, domain authority and it all gets a bit confusing if you don’t know what you are doing.

These are the top 6 tools you need to be using:

1. Get your keywords from Google keyword planner and use Google trends to work out what is trending in your industry.

2. Use Serpsim to add the keywords to your site. This is part of your on-page SEO.

3. You want to get your ranking up by increasing your domain authority. You do this by getting backlinks. Sign up to HARO and get your blogs featured by media companies. Make sure you add website links.

4. Make sure customers can find you by searching on a map. Do this by signing up to google my business. It’s super easy and really does make a difference.

5. Use web.dev to check your sites performance. You might need to improve your page speed, remove bits of code or add keywords. You will find out exactly what is wrong with your SEO by using this tool.

6. Sign up to free directories and add your links for example Yell.

1. Like your followers pictures
2. Comment genuine things on their posts
3. Share their posts
4. Reply to their stories

The sales funnel is each step that someone has to take in order to become your customer. If you don’t understand your sales funnel, you can’t optimise it.
👀 Awareness - the first introduction.... the moment you first catch a consumer’s attention and they become aware of your business and what you offer. This might be through a tweet, instagram post, facebook or a linkedin post.
Following awareness you can start generating your leads, you will have some kind of idea of the types of potential customers that are becoming interested in your brand.

🤔 Consideration - The customer knows you exist but they will start researching. You want to inform them about your specific products and talk about your USP. This may be where they start exploring your website.
Nurture those leads, make sure they know what you can offer, how to get started and what makes you different.

Convincing - your potential customer is ready to make a decision. You need to convince them you are THE best. Share case studies of happy customers, let them see how your product/ service aligns with what they want.
This is why it is important to have a great copywriter to do research on customer intent and tailor your voicing to be more appealing.

Final stage is sales! After this, hopefully they like your product/service enough to become an evangelist and regular customer.

Watch to the end... POV: making a website for The Exorcist Tell the truth.. did you get scared at the end? I remember playing those silly maze games when this pops up at the end and showing it to my younger brother who got terrified. As an older sister, it was hilarious. Do you remember those? This was just for a bit of fun, what makes it interesting is the parallax/ teleporting effect I have used to take the website users through the main scenes of the film. When they click on the characters it jumps to the next scene. This is a really cool effect and could be used in so many ways. Instead of using different character images, you could even use the same image such as a door to make it look like you are jumping through a secret portal.
