Motorcyclist dies in crash with pick up truck
It happened at the junction of London Road and Church Lane in Kings Worthy near Wi******er, on Friday at about 22:30 BST.
Police said the crash involved a black Keeway motorcycle and a white Ford Ranger.

New funding brings Marines museum a step closer
A 19th century boathouse is a step closer to being transformed into a museum, following a multi-million pound cash infusion.
The new Royal Marines Museum would be constructed inside the Grade II listed Boathouse 6 building at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
About £4.9 million has now been pledged by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, bringing the total amount secured to £6 million.

Ferry repairs held up over spare parts delay
The latest repairs to the Isle of Wight's troubled chain ferry have been held up over delays receiving spare parts.
Floating Bridge 6, which crosses the River Medina between Cowes and East Cowes, was pulled from service at the weekend with "mechanical issues".
The council said parts to fix the vessel were due on Monday but "did not arrive as scheduled from our supplier due to ferry disruptions".

Suspected gas leak at industrial park closes roads
People are being urged to avoid an area of Romsey after a suspected gas leak at an industrial park.
Hampshire fire service confirmed it had responded to the incident near Timsbury earlier.

Island vehicle ferry crossings halted
Vehicle ferry sailings between Southampton and the Isle of Wight have been halted after an issue with a bridge ramp.
Red Funnel ferries are unable to run because the linkspan - the ramp at East Cowes used to drive vehicles on and off the vessels - has broken down.
The firm, which halted crossings due to the issue on Sunday night, has apologised.

More than 80 firefighters tackle garage fire
The crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue were called to the building in Bittern Road West, Southampton, at about 05:00 BST.
Eleven fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms and specialist vehicles were being used and people have been advised to avoid the area.

Youth club forced to shut after 'senseless' vandalism
Vision 4 Youth in Yateley, Hampshire, said a "small group broke in and covered the place in cooking oil, eggs and rubbish" last weekend.
The organisation, which works to support 160 young people each week, is fundraising to help pay for the clear-up so it can reopen.

Fire from garden sheds spreads to roof of home
Firefighters from across the Isle of Wight have tackled a fire that started in garden sheds and spread to the roof of a home.
Crews from five stations were sent to the blaze on Desmond Price Close in Lake on Thursday shortly before 19:00 BST.
The fire service said the fire also damaged a camper van and a car parked by the house. No injuries were reported.

Coastal 'new town' plan scrapped
Plans to build a new town on the site of a former power station on the Hampshire coast have been scrapped.
The £1bn Fawley Waterside scheme, submitted in 2019, was to incorporate 1,500 homes and potentially create 2,000 jobs.
In a statement, developers said the plans for the land between the New Forest and Southampton Water were "not viable".

Village bypass gets more than £16m for completion
Hampshire County Council has agreed to increase the budget for the Botley bypass, taking the ongoing projects costs to £48m.
Work on the final phase of the scheme, which was first granted planning permission in 2017, is likely to begin in spring 2025 and be completed in 2027.

Four injured after car crashes into shop
Four people have been injured after a car careered into a market stall before smashing through the front of a town centre shop.
The silver Vauxhall Mokka crashed into Morrisons Daily on Market Place in Romsey, Hampshire, at 12:10 BST.

Zoo welcomes birth of four endangered horse foals

Driver ran down man and girl, 5, after altercation
A driver who intentionally knocked down a man and his five-year-old daughter on a zebra crossing has been jailed for four and a half years.
Neil Hutton, 51, of Farnborough, Hampshire, was involved in an altercation with the man in a car park shortly before the incident on 3 October last year, Wi******er Crown Court heard.

Southampton City Council has announced the potential closure of two sites used by hundreds of people every year.
Woodmill on Woodmill Lane and Southampton Water Activities Centre (SWAC) in Longbridge Industrial Estate, are both at risk of closure.

Car driver dies after crash with pick-up truck
The crash happened on the A33 in Kingsworthy, near Wi******er, on Friday shortly after 21:45 BST, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said.
Police said a silver Vauxhall Corsa, travelling on the southbound carriageway, crossed the central reservation and crashed with a pick-up truck travelling northbound.

Police station front desk to return after closure
A town is set to have a replacement police station almost 10 years after the previous one closed.
The new station will be at the former Barclays building on The Square in Petersfield, Hampshire and Isle of Wight police and crime commissioner Donna Jones has announced.
She confirmed that construction work will begin on the site next month and it is scheduled to open to the public early next year.

Navy destroyer HMS Diamond returns from Red Sea
Royal Navy destroyer HMS Diamond has returned to the UK after six months in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden helping to protect shipping from attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels.
The warship shot down nine drones and a Houthi missile, sailing nearly 44,000 miles and spending 151 days at sea, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.

Large fire closes major motorway overnight
The M275 into and out of Portsmouth was shut in both directions on Saturday morning as a result of "thick, black smoke" from the blaze at TJ Waste & Recycling, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said.
The motorway reopened just after 08:30 BST with a reduced speed limit of 50mph in place but, just after 11:00, police said the road was closed again.

Cruise ship to get deep-clean after norovirus spread
Passengers will face delays boarding a cruise ship so it can be deep-cleaned following an outbreak of norovirus.
A number of people on P&O Cruises vessel Ventura were reported to have been isolating in their cabins with the stomach bug.
The ship, which left for the Canary Islands on 11 May, is due to return to Southampton on Saturday before setting sail again.

Inmates dig through cell wall with plastic cutlery
Inmates in Wi******er Prison dug through cell walls using plastic cutlery, a report has found.
The Independent Monitoring Board's (IMB) national annual report for 2023 looked at the treatment and conditions for those detained.
Victorian establishments like Wi******er, were labelled "particularly dire" with crumbling walls, which were able to be damaged by inmates.

Red Funnel: Island ferry disruption continues over repairs
Passengers set to sail to, or from, Southampton and Cowes are being warned of disruption as repairs continue on a vehicle ferry.
Red Funnel's Red Eagle is out of action for work to its propulsion system.
It means six sailings each way have been cancelled for Tuesday - numerous crossings on Monday were also cancelled.

Parts of the motorways in Hampshire will be shut between 21:00 and 06:00 BST from Monday to Thursday.

Changes to a £200 million waterfront development have sparked another round of public consultation.
The proposal for Town Quay in Southampton includes a five-star hotel, flats, spa, restaurants and bars and was first submitted to the city council by Nicolas James Group in January.

The work to re-line the sewer will shut a lane southbound on the A2030 Eastern Road in Portsmouth.

Hospital's new £58m A&E on track to open this year
A new emergency department at a hospital that has suffered pressure on its A&E facilities is expected to open to patients this winter.
The £58m facility will replace the existing building at Portsmouth's Queen Alexandra Hospital, which first opened in the late 1970s.

D-Day 80: Remains at Lepe Beach inaccessible for anniversary
Historical D-Day structures on the Hampshire coast will be inaccessible for the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, following storm damage to a beach.
Thousands of troops left from Lepe Beach in June 1944, and some of the structures had remained after the war.

Leisure World and the derelict Quayside pub off West Quay Road is being cleared by Associated British Ports (ABP).

Basingstoke: Three held on suspicion of murder after stabbing
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said officers were called to Braddock Court on Monday shortly before 18:50 BST.
The force said the victim, a man aged in his 40s, was found with stab injuries and treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
