Extraordinary beauty and mortal danger can be just a knife’s edge apart - especially when you are in the ‘Death Zone’ (anywhere above 8,000 metres, where oxygen is scarce).
Excerpt: Amazing Sport Stories, Chasing Mountains, episode 1
Extraordinary beauty and mortal danger can be just a knife’s edge apart - especially when you are in the ‘Death Zone’ (anywhere above 8,000 metres, where oxygen is scarce).
This is one of our favourite moments from episode 1 of ‘Chasing Mountains’, Bespoken Media’s incredible new mini-series for the BBC World Service ‘Amazing Sport Stories’ strand.
The series is co-hosted by Kathy Karlo and Joanna Jolly, and brilliantly produced by Leeanne Coyle.
Climber Edurne Pasaban is on her way down from the summit of K2. It is dusk and she is exhausted...

Eps 2, 3 and 4 are out on the next 3 consecutive Mondays.

It's #InternationalTugOfWarDay.
We were with our client On Farm - rural podcast and training academy for a VERY emotional SAYFC Young Farmers #tugofwar finals at last year's Royal Highland Show.
It's well worth listening back :) There's a link in comments to take you straight to the episode.
New cover art gallery for the office wall - looking sharp!
We're so pleased to say - thanks to new funding from Creative Scotland - we will be releasing new episodes of the Lantern Scottish Poetry podcast throughout 2024!
For now, as a wee Christmas present, there is one new episode in the feed - recorded live at the recent Push the Boat Out Festival in Edinburgh's Summerhall.
With Scotland's Makar (and middle class tosser) Kathleen Jamie, regular co-host Ally Heather Heather, and special guest, multi-award winning poet Niall Campbell - it's a great listen!
It's got chat and readings around the theme of Inheritance - all produced by Bespoken's brilliant Patrick Wallace.
We've put a link to the episode in the first comment below (to try to outwit the algo) - or just search 'Lantern Scottish Poetry' in your preferred podcast player.
Can we talk about an AWESOME WOMAN for just one sec?
Gina Martin embarked on a tireless campaign to criminalise 'upskirting' after someone did it to her outside a music festival in June 2017.
Her work resulted in the Voyeurism (Offences) Act 2019. She's gone on to be included in the BBC's 100 Women list, Time Magazine's 100 Next list, and Stylist's 'Remarkable Women'.
Gina - as you may have guessed - is a brilliant contributor to one of Bespoken Media's most recently produced client podcast episodes.
We make a series called 'Interface' for SWGfL - Safe, Secure, Online a charity aimed at helping teachers and educators to keep children and young people safe and confident online. They are one-third of the UK Safer Internet Centre.
Gina has kicked off series 2 of Interface by sharing her experiences of activism, as well as offering tips on how teachers can support children and young people to make a difference on issues they care about - and to stay safe while doing so.
Find the episode at this link: https://pod.fo/e/1ee1b3 (or search 'Interface' in your preferred podcast player).
Gina speaks in this episode with Gareth Cort and Ailish Hunter.
NEW PODCAST PLATFORM FOR SCOTTISH POETRY
We launch something very special today. Our new Scottish poetry podcast The Lantern is live in your feed!
The series is co-hosted by Scotland’s Makar (National Poet) Kathleen Jamie, and writer and presenter Alistair Heather. It is here to showcase the work of both established and emerging Scottish writers.
All episodes so far were recorded in Edinburgh’s incredible Poetry Library.
There is a link to the series in the comments below (to try to sidestep the remorseless Facebook algo) - or just search ‘Lantern Scottish Poetry’ in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred podcast player.
The Lantern is fresh and distinctive. There is nothing like it already in existence. Our ambition is for it to become a mainstay of Scottish cultural life.
These first 3 episodes were made with financial support from Creative Scotland.
If you like what you hear, we are actively seeking sponsors, partners or benefactors to help us to make more. Just get in touch if you’d like to discuss what we can offer - thanks!
Roshni Gallagher - one of the poets showcased in episode 2:
If teachers are who we rely on to help our children and young people to navigate the digital world, who gives our teachers the insights, tools, and confidence they need to do it well?SWGfL - Safe, Secure, Online are 1/3 of the UK Safer Internet Centre. They provide all manner of superb #onlinesafety and digital wellbeing resources to teachers and educators. For the past academic year, Bespoken have been working alongside SWGfL, publishing monthly podcasts on issues as important and varied as: - intimate image abuse (so-called #revenge porn) - dealing with #hacking and #bullying- navigating online life as a woman or girl - developing healthy habits around gaming and enjoying time online. Our last episode before the summer break - released today - hands the reins to young co-hosts Ailish and Princess, to share with us what they know now, in their early 20s, that they wish they’d understood when they were younger in school. Find it by searching ‘Interface’ in any podcast player, and please share with any teachers or educators in your life. Huge thanks to producer Carys Wall for running the show 🙌🏻 Like most teachers, Interface is taking a well-earned summer break - but will be back (with spotless new shoes and a crisp white shirt) when schools re-start for the autumn.

Brian Wilson, from Ullapool, is one of only a handful of people still practicing the traditional Scottish craft of heather thatching.
We meet Brian in our latest OnFARM - Food, Agriculture and Rural Matters Podcast #podcast.
He is working closely with the team at Bell Ingram, who are leading on restoration work at Braemar Castle in the Cairngorms.
In the episode, Monty and I are helping their team to harvest heather to thatch a folly - or 'fog house' - in the castle grounds.

When there are no gendered expectations in domestic life, who does what around the house? Crucially, who does the most?
Our latest 'From Gay to Ze' explores how same-sex partners balance house, jobs and parenting. Lotte and Stu welcome Paul Morgan-Bentley, head of investigations at The Times, and author of new book The Equal Parent.
The book reveals the science behind caregiving and unpicks the reasons why so much in the straight parenting world falls to women.
This is a fascinating episode full of brilliant insights - about what happens to our brains when we become parents.
We would love you to give it a listen. Just search 'From Gay to Ze' wherever you get podcasts.
Series produced by brilliant Carys Wall here at Bespoken.
Question for teachers and educators this #internationalwomensday: What more can you do to support girls to thrive online?
For #IWD23, campaigner & author Natasha Devon MBE joins the #interface #podcast team from SWGfL - Safe, Secure, Online, to talk about what teachers need to understand about #onlineporn, so-toxic '#wellness', #disinformation, more.

Our latest #podcast launch From Gay to Ze has got off to a flying start - with Hollywood leading man Ben Aldridge as Lotte and Stu’s first guest.
Ben stars in new M Night Shyamalan film Knock at the Cabin. His character just happens to be one of a pair of gay dads - which feels like an important watershed moment for a major Hollywood genre release.
From Gay to Ze is a brilliant new #LGBTQ+ #parenting podcast, produced by our team at Bespoken Media.

Our latest episode of On Farm, Scotland's rural podcast, is an important warning of 'full blown crisis' in a key part of Scottish agriculture.
Rising costs, increasing uncertainty and a squeeze on prices are all impacting Scottish fruit growers, according to Angus Soft Fruit's James Porter.
James has been speaking to Bespoken's Dave Howard - and has issued a plea for greater support from UK and Scottish governments, farming unions, and anyone else with influence to change things.
